I have an E6600 with artic pro 7, PH5 DW Deluxe, X1950XTX. 2 gb of corsair RAM.

My new build has been working perfectly since I built it about 2 months ago. Not one problem.

I turned it off last night. No problems.

I go to turn it on again this morning, and I get nothing. No fans, no lights. Nothing. Tried it again this evening, nothing. Have opened it up and everything is the way I left it 2 months ago. The little green light on the MOBO isn't on however.

I have changed the power lead, tried different plugs. But nothing works. Haave checked all the cables. They are fine. The light on the PSU is on (a hiper 580 modular).

Please can anyone suggest anything, this is really annoying!

Cheers guys

I would check that the PSU is actually working by jump starting it (connect the green pin to any black pin on the ATX plug) first.

The green wire on the main big power cable to the motherboard, if you connect that to ground (any of the black wires in that bundle) it'll start the PSU.

Interesting, I didn't know that . . .any chance of blowing anything (yourself) up?

Worst that could happen is if you got it wrong and connected a live wire (I think there is a couple of wires live even when the PC is off) to one of the other wires creating a short. It's all low voltage so no personal risk.

I used to use just a loop of thick wire, but I've now got a clip thing that you plug in on the end of connector that I got with a PSU.

Paper clip or a bit of wire twist-rap works nicely. Some psu's however require a load to start, usually high spec ones. If there is no load it can sometimes trip the psu. Stick a fan or something on one of the molex's then short the green and any black wire and you will be ok.

I think its the PSU.

I'm getting nothing at all power wise. The fan isn't moving at all. My PC hasn't moved in weeks, and have doubled checked all the cables. So no loose ones. Looked around the MOBO, theres no sign of a burn out or anything like that. So praying its not the MOBO, or CPU etc, starting to think it isn't.

When I plug the PSU in, I hear a funny crackling noise, which doesn't sound right.

Is there a way I can test the PSU? I tried "jump" starting the PSU, but I got no response.

I'm not being funny, but I assume you have checked the power switch on the PSU hasn't been set to off.

Also have you tried a different powerlead and power socket?

I'm not slagging off Hiper PSU's, but they do appear to have a high failure rate. It does sound like that is what's let you down.

I am slagging off Hiper psu's. They are bloody rubbish. There are dozens of the damn things let go on here over the past couple of months. That's almost the same fault that mine developed except mine did fail when running. Crackling noises which quickly turned into acrid black smoke. Took a brand new motherboard with it too.

Get rid of it and get one from a decent manufacturer such as Seasonic, OCZ, Antec etc.

Shame really. Had the non Type-R 580watt and its served very well for the past 8 months with a heavy load on it. No splutters or power issues.

The shame of it is that I've seen an 'above-average' number of dead Hiper's. Wonder what the root of this particular evil is...
