I've had my current setup for just over 3 years. I've never had to reload the OS as it has always worked well.

I've noticed that sometimes there is a bit of lag when loading applications. I think this is down to the ammount of rubbish I've got installed generally.

The spec as it stands is:

Barton 2500+ running at 3200+
Abit Motherboard (Can't remember the model. It has onboard RAID and sound)
1GB 3200LL Corsair (2X512)
80GB SATA Spinpoint C:
2 X 160 IDE Spinpoint D: E:
Asus 9600XT 128MB AGP
2 X 109 Pioneer DVD-RW's

I've got around £450 to throw at a new base unit. I don't really want to use any old bits. The new PC would be a web/games platform only.

I'm thinking of a spec like this:

E6300 Duo
Quiet HS+Fan capable of cooling a clocked CPU
Motherboard
2GB RAM
Smallish/Fast C: Drive
PCI-E Graphics
Nice case + PSU

So, is that do-able of I'm I [Fully star out swearies please] in the wind?

Help guys :)

If by nice graphics, you mean a 8800 GTS then I'm afraid it can't be done. Even if you reused your HD and DVD drive (which you have said you don't want to do) then its looking more like £600-£700.

You could put a 7600 GT in your current system which would be a huge upgrade from 9600XT. That + format your HD and put a new build of XP on it, and you'll probably be surprised at the new performance.

no £450 for a decent C2D gaming rig is simply not do-able.

However it will get you a nice CPU+RAM+Mobo+Graphics upgrade. You will have to use all your current HDDs and DVD-RWs.

You may also need a new power supply though.

E6300 + P5N-E + Geil 2Gb + Sapphire 1950pro 256Mb should come under £450. plus you get money back for selling your old components.
