Ok so here is the deal!

Its my misses 25th birthday tomorrow (not much time I know) and I would like to make her a birthday cake from scratch. I never usually bake (shes better at it than I am) but I would like to try for her as I am sure she will appreciate the effort.

I need the best chocolate cake recipe going! and also the best icing recipe going (probably butter cream or similar) I will decorate the top with some chocolates etc.

So food fans please help hook me up with your best ones! Doesnt have to serve many as there will only be a few eating it.

Thanks in advance :)

That one does look pretty epic. Although not sure I have enough cake tins to do a tripple layer cake :s And I am guessing it will effect cooking time and ability to raise if i tried it in 2.

Hi

This is the best chocolate cake recipe I've used http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/694633/double-chocolate-loaf-cake I leave out the ground almonds and the drizzle on the top.

Not had one person say a bad thing about it and it lasts a good few days in an air tight container.

You could easily put this in a round tin, once cooked and cooled slice the cake open and add a layer of chocolate cream or something and ice the whole cake :)

One other thing it takes longer to cook then why the recipe states normally takes an hr.

Idiot proof chocolate cake

3 large eggs
175g (6 oz) self-raising flour
175g (6 oz)caster sugar
175g (6 oz) softened butter
1½ level tsp baking powder
40g (1½ oz) cocoa powder
A little boiling water

Preheat oven to 180C
Mix up cocoa powder with boiling water to make a chocolatey paste. Bung everything in a food processor and mix until smooth. Turn into 2 7in sandwich tins and bake for about 25mins until done. Make some chocolate buttercream, put some between the two and smother the rest all over.

Scoff!
