Right, I'm no good at this but here goes: I basically need to make a riddle with the answer being "Lord of the Rings". It shouldn't be easy, but possible if you had an hour or so to think about it.

I've been looking through the definitions of 'lord' on google, and thought maybe including something like '[SIZE=-1]A feudal superior' or something....

Anyone got some ideas?

It also needs to be clean and serious ;)

I'm thinking more of word play then anagrams, lets make it intellectual  I was also thinking having a few lines for each part of the phrase i.e two lines for lord etc

9 upon a noble quest
Not strongest, wisest or noblest - best
On the smallest hangs the fate of all
Lest the evil in the south hold ME in his thrall

Whilst very good, that'll be blindingly obvious to anyone even half familiar with LotR

Just a 2 minute thing to provide a starting point :)

I'll do something more extensive/complicated later if I'm not beaten to it.

I like that. I think if you didn't know the riddle was about LOTR then it wouldn't be immediately obvious. If it did prove to be too easy then something along those lines would be good.

Six books in three, or maybe one,
Of kings and knights and evil undone,
Of companions nine and towers two,
Of battlecries and derring do.
Was the greatest story ever told,
About this single band of gold?

How about:

"It has midgets and dwarves and trolls, and goes on for hours with you glued to your seat.

Hint: It's not low-quality specialist porn."

My monitor was fine until you caused me to snort Dr Pepper all over it. Expect a bill in the post.
