Hi all,

Currently looking to purchase a new laptop to replace my ageing Acer Aspire 6920G. The laptop will be used as a desktop replacement. I don't really game on my laptop, just the odd bit of FM 2012, it is mainly used for daily surfing, downloading and movies etc.

I have the following XPS 17 3D machine in mind at the moment:

i7-2670QM 2.20 GHz
Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
17.3 FHD 3D WLED TL (1920x1080) 1080p
3GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M Graphics Card - 3D Capable
8192MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x4096]
DVD+/-RW (DVD, CD read and write)
750GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
9-cell 90Whr Lithium Ion battery
Backlit UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230
NVIDIA ® 3D Vision Active Shutter Glasses

Total cost is £817

Problem is my wife says that is too much to spend and basically asks "What will that laptop do that a £400 one won't for us" Good question really!!

I reckon I could twist her arm with the right justification.
Help me out guys....... is she right?

Is there anything around the £500 mark that would be good too? Would rather have a 16/17inch screen and preferably 2 slots for HDD so I can add an SSD

Cheers in Advance
Paul

You can probably pick that up off of the dell outlet for a big saving if you really want the xps and that spec mate.

If you are just surfing and doing movies then this for an XPS 17. This will do everything you need and more and won't be bad for gaming either. Heck my old Lenovo G555 2.1GHZ X2 AMD system would do everything I needed including autocad and adobe CS.
