i just bought the majority of my system lastnight and all i need now is the GPU and RAM. what should i buy next. its between the MSI 7900gto and 2gb Geil 6400. basically what i am asking is, what will OcUK discontinue first/what would be better to get now?

more than likely dx9 graphics cards will come down in price when dx10 comes out, so would i be better waiting to get the GPU later and get the RAM at the end of the month?

thanks in advance

Possibly look at say a 7600GT/7900GS to 'tide you over' until DX10 but get the ram now.

Even the little 7300GT GDDR3 would be decent enough until DX10 is out although you will have to sacrifice some game features (AA and AF etc)

You between a rock and a hard place atm, cos mem would be the obvious choice as it doesn't drop in price compared to graphics cards, but it is very expensive atm. So its really six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Buy the memory now and hope the 7900 drops by £20

Buy the 7900 now and hope memory price recovers

Dont buy either and hope the 7900 drops by £20 and mem prices recover

couple of months yet for dx10, even then to make it worthwhile they have to release dx10 games...

i read a review the other day saying the dx10 for win xp will be dx 9 L so dx9 users dont miss out....i believe i have got that right...

at the moment can you live more without a gpu or RAM???

do you do a lot of video editing? if yes get the RAM wait for the gpu...

If no.....and you still want to wait for the GPU then get the RAM.....

Alternatively you could buy yourself a cheaper gpu so you can at least play games for the time being as well as having the RAM....

its all down to your overall use of the system and how much you mind not being able to play games on max settings on full res depending on your screen...

have no intentions of buying a dx10 card or even thinking of going vista yet, whats the point really, games are still using dx9, i know not for much longer but hey, itll be min 6 months+ before the majority of games are going dx10

cool so is it the RAM then?

it would seem like it yes, but the 7900GTO is a v good card (unlocks/overclcoks to GTX standards and more with great ease) and i dont want to lose out on getting something so good. but im sure when the time comes there will be a better card out and ill laugh when i thought about getting a 7900gto

so true lol, i might have a cheapo pci 64mb graphics card i can use for the meantime, yes primarly the machine will be for gaming, but this way i can wait for a bit and get a good card 2/3 weeks later.

ill have time then for tweaking and overclocking :D

i get paid on friday so the ram should be here on saturday if not monday delivery depending.
