Hi all

Can you help me make my pc quiet, it basically sounds like a planes taken off.

So two options are quiet hsf and fans or very cheap watercooling?

Can somebody spec a quiet hsf for a s939 rig, preferably something that will fit on my rig and a rig that if upgrade to an intel then it will fit on that too.

thanks in advance!

Kirbz

Dangerous game to start, it will become an obsession!

First, try turning individual fans off until you have identified the worst offenders. Then see what happens to your system's stability without them. Ignore temperatures for the moment.

Once you know which ones are causing the most noise consider replacing them with quiet equivalents such as Yate Loons or Noctuas. Only start looking at water-cooling after you've proved that that is your only solution.

Yeah that's why I thought I'd ask although I was thinking of getting a fanmate?

I think it is the hsf though. I'll use speedfan to slow the 2 fans that I have on my pc and plug my zalman GFX cooler in the lower voltage socket to make it spin slower. (if that is right)

Which colour is the lower voltage slot for the gfx cooler? The one that comes off the psu

Edit: man you guys are quick :p

Make sure you have "Smart Fan" or "Quiet Fan" or something similar to that enabled in the bios, if you have a hsf that is speed controlled it may be running at full speed constantly unless the bios setting is enabled.

TURN IT OFF !!!!!! :D

Haha yeah that could work

It's not running at 100% it's just a loud hsf. Also my bios is locked too :(

Anyway an update, I disconnected my Zalman GFX fan and put it on the lower V connection on the psu and now thats quiet, disconnected the exhaust fan I have and now seems a hell of a lot quieter although I think my hsf needs changing. Will put it under load and have a butchers.

Edit: my HSF is the problem, although my pc is a lot quieter now when that spins quicker due to heat it makes the noise.

Edit part deux: Thanks for all your input guys.

What about the northbridge fan if there is one - might very well be worth seeing how much noise that works, and use a passive cooler
