X.M.P does not boot. Auto feels slow and sluggish. I managed to get it to 3.9 feeling much faster with the right RAM timings but i'd like to go further. Can anyone guide me through it please?

Memory speed ? Memory timings ? memory configuration ? 2 sticks ? 4 sticks ? , cooling ? motherboard ?.

However the first bit of advice is clock the cpu first , with the right cooling you should have no problems getting a 2600k to 4.5 , then worry about clocking the memory. Cpu speed will have a MUCH larger impact on system speed than memory speeds , especially on sandybridge, getting memory stability on anything over 1866 with 2x16gb ram will be hard and 4x8gb even harder.

Thanks for getting back to me.
The motherboard is the problem I think. p8b75-v. I can only change the base clock. I have Kraken x62 Liquid cooler. 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133mhz. Strix 1070 8GB OC.I'm reluctant to spend more money on old hardware, I've already spent in excess of £1000 on it and I will save up for a newer system in the future, I don't know when that will be though. I need to get the most that I can out of my system for the moment. I'm tired of people telling me that I don't need what I have but I really do. I do some incredibly labour intensive tasks like CPU + GPU based rendering, Simulation and Photogrammetry.

If you can help me in any way, i'd be very grateful :D

Honestly, i'd keep an eye out for a z68/77 board , i bought one recently for the grand total of 20 pounds ( an asus PZ68-v), even today the 2600k is no slouch but it needs to be clocked otherwise its a huge bottleneck to the 1070 OC. There are loads of Asus Z77 and Z68 boards on the bay, just make an offer, say if you bag a board for 50 you can sell yours for at least 25 , its a cheap but worthy upgrade imho.

Everybody keeps telling me to stop investing money in an old system and save towards a newer one. After talking to you however I am definitely game for a new Mobo. So i'm a die hard ASUS fan. Would you recommend Strix, Maximus,Hero,Formula,Z77. What is the best please? Thanks in advance.

Computer hardware enthusiasts are a fickle bunch and a fair few like to 'promote what they own'.

Even now , 7 years on a 2600k can still hold its own in day to day tasks and gaming, hell the only reason i ever upgrade is because its my hobby and i enjoy new and shiny.

As for a board , as long as it has enough ports and the features you want buy whats best for you budget.

I have a Rampage board, but it doesn't really do anything any other Asus x99 board wouldn't do, i'm not an extreme overclocker so in my case it was purely asthetics.

you mean windows to boot ? can you get into the bios ok ? , if so its probably the sata mode , if its set to ahci then change to ide and check it it boots then , if not try the automated windows diagnostics and make sure your booting from the correct drive.
