Gone from 2 x 24" 1080p to single UW 34"

UW suffered bleed so have gone back to a single 24" 1080p.

Played some games last night and it was like playing with blinkers on.

I need to move forward but I'm really at a loss as what to get?

UW is expensive (brilliant though) but the expense and time of getting a satisfactory screen puts me off.

I'm even thinking now of getting the Dell Gsync...But I'm worried it will be to small plus after plugging my 24 TN spare in I could really notice how washed out the colours were...

I've been spoilt with IPS UW :(

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Is 32" to big for 1440p?
Is VA decent?

I re4ally need help on this...As I can't carry on with this 24" much longer:o

27" seems to be the sweet spot for 1440p. Although there's nothing wrong with 32" if that's what you want, just the image wont be as crisp.

VA is a decent panel type. Good contrast, excellent blacks, very little bleed, but suffers a little on image quality and is typically slower (response and input lag) compared to IPS and TN. Some shenanigans with font and scaling also needed to offset blurriness with text on some VA panels.

Personally I'd go for 27" IPS and wait a while for UW to sort its self out in terms of price / performance. My old Hazro 27" IPS has no bleed, very little glow and no dead or stuck pixels. It's been sitting on my desk for about 3 years, and will continue to do so until UW is sorted or I get distracted by something else. Like VR, maybe.

i would give uw another go, you could give dell the benifit of doubt and try another or mabe the lg curved, the samsung is nice but i have a feeling you would prefer ips.

or you could splash the cash and join me in the acer xr34 and amd fury owners club, im really liking this monitor and i dont have a problem using amd.

I tried exactly this quite recently...

- 32" 1440p is almost exactly the same pixel density as 24" 1080p, which most folks find comfortable to work on. No screen door effect to be seen.

- 32" 16:9 is magnificent, yet not as overpowering on your desk as you might think.

- VA responsiveness was good enough for the games I play; none of which are fps based. No significant ghosting.

- VA panels commonly have issues with brightness banding - and mine did, thus went back. I wasn't able to source a screen without this issue.

If anyone made a 32" 1440p 16:9 IPS, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat - but I don't fancy another go at the VA roulette. Guess I'm waiting for the 4k rush to wear off as Average Joe discovers his PC can't actually push all them pixels anyway and starts wanting a more reachable 32" option.

Pretty much in the same place as easyrider after sending back the Dell U3415W. I do think that a 16:9 27" might be a bit too small after using the 34" 21:9 which leaves a 32" 1440p/4k, 40" 4k or another ultrawide. My heart says go for another Dell ultrawide and try and get a panel with minimal bleed, as the 21:9 aspect ratio is superb for gaming.

I was looking at the Samsung Ultrawide but reports of the text not looking as sharp has put me off, although I know if I went this route I would be guaranteed good blacks. The other option is the Acer but after reading the thread over the last week I am not sure I want to pay even more of a premium for similar chances of bleed/glow as the dell and additional problems which owners are reporting.

Oldgamer - how would you say the acer stacks up against the samsung now you have used the acer for a few days?

the acer is defently sharper with good colour, ive not even touched any settings yet where with the samsung i fiddeled about for weeks to get it to right, the blb on the acer is a non issue as in general use i dont notice any.
dont get me wrong the samsung is very good for gaming but side by side i would choose the acer, i know the gsync has been taking a bit of flack bit ive no complaints with the freesync its pretty much deliverd what i hoped it would.
the sapphire fury tri-x is doing a pretty decent job at 3440x1440 also

Thanks mate for confirming that, always good to get the info from someone who has owned both. After reading two people say the same thing I am going to cross the Samsung off the list.

As for the Acer I am not sure if I can drop that much cash over the Dell considering what I have read recently. If I was guaranteed less glow/bleed I might be tempted with the freesync model but the g sync model is 60% more than I paid for the Dell and I just cant see the value in that at this time.

I'm the same mate...the extra cost for the Acer is just too much...I have the cash but not the heart in this case....

I'm just not convinced I will be happy with another U3415W...ill probably get the same amount of bleed knowing my luck...

I do like dark blacks...I don't watch movies I have my projector screen and Panasonic plasma for that...it's mainly games and video editing....while the UW was nice for editing...it was like having two 4:5 screens rather than two 16.9 screens...so I know I Defo want to go back to a dual screen setup...I just need to pick one monitor now....and the next in a month or so...

I'm thinking Dell Gsync along with a U2715H..

Or I cheap it up and get the AOC 27" mentioned at 299... I'm a casual gamer so do I really need Gsync...apart from the bleed gaming UW at 60 on a IPS was fine IMO...

Arghhhhhhhhhhh!! :o:p:p

I had the Dell U2515H a few weeks before the ultrawide and sent it back due to the pixel pitch and overall size being too small. The image quality was nice although once again there was minor glow in all the corners, but I do stress minor glow, also there was no bleed.

I was put off buying the U2715H as the panel doesn't seem to be as good as the 25" as the contrast ratio is a fair bit lower (about 300) and there are allot of owner reports and the tft review points out that one side of the screen (I think right) was brighter. I think this would annoy me more than seeing a bit of glow in dark scenes.

As for the Dell ultrawide I read on a US forum that Dell were going to sell the U3415W for $650 on black Friday so I am hoping we might see some nice deals around that time here. Until then I am going to wait it out and see what arises and weigh up my options.

i'm in totally the same position as you guys. Its pretty disgusting really that we've gotta worry about gambling on whether something will be decent when it's costing over £600 :(

Get the XR34, you know you want it ;)

of course he does, infact I did a survey and when asked 2 out of every 3 cats said they preferred freesync.

What did the third cat prefer?
Sidenote: the box for the XR34 is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking huge, no? :D Could easily fit 6 of my 28" Samsung 4k's in there.

I was hoping top upgrade to ultra wide 1440p with freesync, but it seems silly to play the IPS monitor lottery when spending well over £400.

I settled on a BenQ 2730Z, get to unpack it after a coffee, shortly.

My first ever non-Iiyama PC monitor! :D
