My computer has always been fine, logging onto windows xp + service pack 2 every day. Today i logged in, then tried to open mozilla firefox the browser took ages to open and then froze i had to pull the power cable out of the PC. Then windows wouldn't allow me to login anymore, the mouse buttons wouldn't work, so i pressed enter on the keyboard which got me in. Again mozilla opens but this time only when double clicking right mouse button when usually you use the left mouse button. Then it opens in a little window i try to maximise to no avail. I tried unplugging my mouse and re plugging but it's made no difference. Then i had to use internet explorer where i am now writing this.

What's up with my PC?

any help much aprpeciated

Many thanks

Sounds like the mouse buttons have been reversed.

Start / Settings / Control Panel / Mouse and look there - using the right mouse button as you would use the left mouse button.

Hi there,

Many thanks for your reply

I went to the mouse settings in control panel, and i noticed the mouse settings hadn't changed. But i decided to switch the buttons round still. Then i noticed that the mouse works better but still has problems, i went back and switched them round again to how they were originally. The strange thing is that for some reason the left mouse button isn't working at all (well only sometimes it clicks here and there but is not reliable) but the right mouse button is doing the function that the left mouse button does as well as the standard right click that brings up a menu on the desktop back ground.

I did a test on the desktop back ground, i used the right mouse button which for some reason is doing the left mouse button function of clicking. Then i drew a grid on the desktop by holding the cursor down from clicking and holding the button and them moving the mouse to make the grid bigger and smaller. The mouse tracking jumps about, it seems that the USB laser optical mouse that i got that the laser has weakened over the time that i have had it and that maybe it's decaying now, could that be the problem?

please help

thanks

I haven't got face book, i don't think a system restore would make any difference, apart from that the computer is working well it's just the mouse. I really think it's the laser, I need a new mouse, a while back the mouse was playing up in a different way. It could be just that, unless you guys no of anything else

anyhow thanks for your help guys

it's a software problem if your computer is freezing, not a new mouse

system restore to take it back to a time when it worked - that may help, if it's a driver or system file issue thats changed
