I made a thread a while back about the way the CPU fan on my PC was cutting out irregularly and how my PC lost one of my hard drives whenever I bypassed the CPU fan controller. After a day or so these problems seemed to disappear and I pretty much forgot about it.

Recently my PC again seems to be losing the HD every now and then after a period of operation. Very rarely the HD will not be found while booting. Now, if it hadn't been for the problems with the CPU fan I would just assume that the HD is past it (it is about 3 years old now and has been heavily used as my OS/apps drive), but I guess there could also be issues with power? My specs are in my sig, and I believe that PSU should easily be enough if working properly.

My Q: what is the best way to test the fitness of my HDs and PSU?

could be the motherboard, fan, or hard drive... hell it could even be the psu or ram..... sorry i know i just listed the parts of the entire computer

although your psu is 550w it could be something to do with the rails...thats why the cpu cooler just stops or cuts out randomly...

I would think about trying a new different well known psu....something like an antec 500psu neo modular or the enermax's...

It MIGHT be an issue with the BIOS , if the fan control is playing up and causing to stop , and also not recognising the HDD. Maybe *shrugs* just a suggestion - try flashing it.

I was planning on buying a couple of 7200.10 SATAs to replace the two old IDEs that are in anyway, but I really want to rule out a problem with the PSU as I'm not exactly flush with cash at the moment.
