Long story short - I've become bored of running CS:S on a 1.7GHz Pentium M laptop with Radeon 9600 graphics

Soooo... I need to decide on Intel or AMD. The whole lot is hopefully gonna be less than £350 ex monitor, so what you you reccommend?

Thanks :)

Intel, end of discussion :D

Honestly though, would you be overclocking? Do you just need it to play CS or anything else?

TF2 maybe? Just for any good games that I can waste my life on, and of course sitting in GD as most of you will know :D

In that case, can you spec me a decent CPU and Mobo combo, that's cheap enough to leave enough for the rest of the system?

Thankyou :)

The Source engine is massively CPU limited, get an Intel chip therefore as pretty much all of them will clock higher than any of AMDs current offerings.

intel > amd in desktop + laptop at the moment

Eh I don't know about that. I will admit Intel is faster for the most part but to be frank there has been more and more good news coming from the Phenom's and the new boards with the better SB. I actually looked at some sites here in the states and there's some good pricing on the chips and boards.

I might actually go back if the stuff I have seen keeps up. I think just like the ATI/Nvidia argument that went on for a long time AMD gets poo pooed. Ill probably get flamed for saying it but the Phenom's actually look pretty appealing on the tri and quad core front.

People who fail to by the best chip on the market due to loyalty are crazy.

I had many happy years with AMD and will again in the future I'm sure.
