I'm having a hell of a time atm the moment with BT Broadband, thier service is going from bad to worse, I'm living in newquay cornwall atm, could anyone reccomend me another isp pleeeeeeeeeeaaassseeeeeeee, I have googled around but the problem is these other isp's are not going to tell you the negative points about thier service,

Anyone have any opinions on Virgin non-cable broadband ?

Thankyou

Virgin doesn't have enough capacity of the number of users. 7pm to about 10pm was unusable for anything other than very light internet. This was back in November from when max went live and users are still complaining 5 months after I left.

I am with Aquiss who resell the Enta network. I would recommend any of their resellers, UKFSN, ADSL24 and Vivaciti.

How is your exchange? Is it a crowded one?

Can you maybe tell us what your problems are?

Because there are quite a few that will have nothing to do with your ISP - one of which (Exchange Congestion) has already been mentioned.

Well up until a few weeks ago everything has been fine, but recently non of my torrents are coming down very well, I've tried a few different torrent clients now and the internal nat/firewall tester (like the one that's built into Azureus) seems to take an age to confirm nat/firewall is fine and a lot of the time it just times out and fails, also line speed in general just seems to of slowed down, I'm supposed to be able to reach 6.5mb on this 8mb max dsl service but recently with all the main broadband speed testers my line is being rated as 3mb and less :(, I'm using a belkin router that has the internal firewall disabled, all my programmes that require port forwarding are intered into the router with all the relivant tcp/udp ports open and assigned to the right IP address, I've checked the DHCP Client pool and my IP's for all my machine are the same (as they are assigned automaticly) so match up with the same IP's i've opened ports for, even surfing the net it just does'nt feel as responsive as it used to, and finaly what has begin REALLY bugging me is the broadband support line, it's not 24 hour anymore and now it's based in poppadom country :( and these guys just never EVER understand anything I'm trying to explain the them.

Does the router give you any stats which you could post up? Such as SNR Margin, Attenuation, Sync Speed?

Cheers. :)

http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ I'm not sure if it is real time or not. It's worded as though it is so you need to do it at times between 6pm and 11pm.

Also do a few speed test in this time period on the BT tester.

really handy link there cheers, heres what it says about my exchange,

"Results: Newquay Code: WWNEWQ
County: Cornwall
Enabled: 16 Apr 2002

Virtual paths: Red

BT is reporting that some of the virtual paths at this exchange are not operating within BT Wholesale's planning guidance, although they are still operating within the product specification.

At busy times, your ADSL connection may operate at a reduced speed, although not all customers on your exchange may be affected. You should only contact support if there is no current ETA date set.

The ETA fix time is: 16 Mar 07

Record last updated: 26 Feb 07"

going by this it looks like it could be the local exchange
