Hi guys,
I recently just finished my build:
Asus Maximus VII Hero
i7 4970K
H105 CPU Cooler
Kingston HyperX 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit
Things I have done so far after the build was finished and hooked up:
- Go into the bios and loaded optimised defaults
- Install Windows 8.1
- Installed vital drivers e.g. LAN card, chipset drivers, video card drivers
- Installed CPU-Z
- Installed OCCT 4.4.0
- Run OCCT on stock settings to check temps.
My current STOCK temps seem to be around 26C idle and 60C load.
I ran OCCT at stock settings just to make sure that the system was stable and after 10 mins I rebooted back into the BIOS.
In the UEFI bios I went to manual overclocking mode and set the multiplier to 42 and changed the vcore to 1.2. I then set the DRAM frequency to 1600 as I want to test the CPU without overclocking the RAM at the same time.
Back into Windows and running OCCT 4.0 and monitoring temps. 10 mins and its doing fine. Will go for 4.4ghz next at 1.2v. If it crashes I will up the volts.
My questions are:
Is this a logical way to overclock. Once I find my limit at the lowest volts I will then start to up my memory frequency.
Are there any other benchmarks you guys recommend?
What are the max volts and temps you guys would recommend for the 4790k with a H105 cooler.
Thanks in advance.
