Set Up:

Processor - Intel Duel-Core E6300
Motherboard - Gigabyte 945-PL-S3
RAM - Kingston 1Gb Value RAM 533 PC2 4200 - 4:4:4:12 timings (Can be changed)
Hard Drive - SATA 250Gb 7200RPM
Graphics Card - nVIDIA 7300GS 512Mb
Operating System - Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2

I am having problems overclocking it. I can get it to run at 2Ghz by changing the CPU Frequency, but if I change any other settings like the PCI-Express, or the Voltages the system doesn't boot.

However, I have read that people got this to Overclock upto 2.4Ghz without even having to buy top of the range components, so what I am doing wrong.

Thanks guys.

don't change the PCI stuff, just the FSB, up the voltage by VERY LITTLE when you need to (ie when its unstable)

Thanks for the quick reply vENT.

I've tried a lot of different techniques but nothing seems to work, by the FSB, do you mean the CPU Frequency, or the Memory Multiplier, because in my BIOS I don't see any FSB Setting except for the Voltage for it.

The Multiplier is at the default of 2.66 and the frequency is at 282Mhz, in my case 100 was the default setting.

Any changes I seem to make result in it not booting, and it's doing my head in having to clear CMOS all the time hehheh.

Also I was told to change the FSB : DRAM Ratio. but I can't seem to find that in BIOS either.

Cheers bud.

ok, FSB is the speed the CPU and ram run at (kinda) the CPU then has the multiplyer (x9) that upps the speed to its true speed, but the RAM must be able to cope with the FSB speed aswell unless you use a devider (check forum FAQ at top)

Have you read the various guides and whatnot about how to overclock without your PC exploding?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I appreciate it. :D

I can't seem to get the CPU Frequency above 290Mhz though, any higher and the system won't boot. With the specs I listed in my 1st post, should I be able to go above 290 or not?

Also what Memory Multiplier is better, 2.0 or 2.66, either seem to work, but it doesn't detect any changes in speed when running at either of those 2 multipliers.

EDIT: Having messed with something in BIOS (not sure what I did) but when I open CPU-Z my FSB : DRAM is set at 1:1 instead of the 3:4 that it used to be. Is 1:1 better, and how did I manage to change it lol?!

You should be able to get more out of it on a 2.66 divider, maybe time for some better ram? the Geil pc5300 should do 400mhz and the pc6400 500mhz.

Edit to your edit :p :that is the effect the multiplier has on your ram.

You're probably right mate, I lowered the Multiplier to 2.00 and I've managed to get the Frequency passed the 290 mark, it's at 293 now. Giving a total CPU Speed or 2.05Ghz. Any higher and the system won't boot.

Is that RAM you suggested, the best one that's cheap yet able to Overclock very well?

Also are there any places that part-exchange RAM lol?

Cheers :D
