So I have a Q6600 GO, ASUS P5Q-L PRO and 2GB 1066mhz ram. And i'm having trouble overclocking the CPU higher than 3GHz. I managed to get 3GHz by doing 333x9 with the memory running at 5-5-5-15 like its rated without changing any voltages. However if I wanted 3.2GHz whether I used x8 or x9 multiplier I couldn't get it stable even if I increased NB, SB and Vcore voltage to max. Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed? Thanks

what temps do you have also what programs are you using to test stability and temps?
is you cpu a g0 stepping if its not then them clocks could be as high as you can go

Just do a search in this section. There is a silly amount of threads on the Q6600 that will help. And don't forget to read the "Important Stuff" at the top of this section as well.

memory strapping.

can you tell me what your memory strapping is?

when you raise the cpu frequency the ram frequency goes up with it, you need to change your memory strapping to bring the ram frequency back down.

It's a GO model, i'm going to go find out what the memory strapping is now.

If memory strapping is FSB strapping then it's set on Auto. With the options of 200,266,333,400.

7....

7Mhz more = BSOD immediately when logging into windows.

Nvm apparently it's a memory issue. But I put max voltage and set the timings it says on the sticker, how annoying.

You need to find out what the speed of your RAM is rated at for those voltages and timings, but most importantly, what it is currently running at. CPU-Z will tell you this information.

If you have PC6400 (800Mhz rated, usually 1.8v-1.9v) and you are running it faster, then you will get BSOD. CPU-Z should show it to be 400mhz (double data rate is why it may show as 800mhz in other places) or slighly less or slightly more, give or take a few mhz here and there. PC8500 ram is rated at 1066mhz DDR, which is 533mhz in CPU-Z.

The memory strapping filters out the possible RAM speeds for you to select in the BIOS. Leave it on auto and find the actual section for DRAM speed or frequency and set it according to what speed ram you have (either 800mhz or 1066mhz most probably)

Make sure you dont set all the voltages on max otherwise you will kill your CPU.

My motherboards go WAY above the typical usage requirements! CPU voltage keep below 1.5v, RAM below 2.3v, NB 1.5v
