Normally I'd just say "spec me a monitor at £X", but unfortunately mine just conked out and I need to replace it pretty urgently. As such, don't really have time to pick the ideal one, order it off the internet, and wait 2-3 days for it to arrive - I'll have to go into town tomorrow morning and get it from a high street shop (no doubt paying a premium compared to its online price
but what can you do?)
As such, because I don't know what the shops will have in stock, I'm not asking you to recommend a specific monitor, but rather to let me know what I should be looking for in terms of specs!
I'm looking to spend around £150 (can stretch to £200ish), size between 21-23", preferably 5:4 rather than 19:9 (I'd take even an old 4:3 monitor over 16:9 - I hate it!). Would like a fairly quick response time (I'm a gamer, but not massively hardcore, so doesn't need to be absolutely top of the line - my e-sports career won't be harmed by a couple of milliseconds difference
). What I definitely would like is deep blacks, because I use my PC to watch a lot of videos on, and my old monitor was pretty terrible in that area - dark videos were basically unviewable. Which spec is it that affects how well dark colours are displayed?
So, what should I be looking for in terms of response time, brightness, contrast ratio and any other spec you think I should be asking about?

I'll try to find that particular monitor on the high street, I'll probably pay around £200 for it and I'll be annoyed and seething, but I'll have a monitor that isn't this 11" laptop screen I'm current;y writing on...
Still no recommenddations on actual specs I should be looking for, so I'll go for something whose specs roughly resemble that BenQ's.
