I'm looking to buy a tablet but I'm confused by the array of different models availible.

I'm looking to spend around 200 - 250 on it at a maximum.

Main use will be web browsing for forums and the like (i'd would like flash support as several sites I use have flash applets on them), watch iplayer and youtube as well as listen to music.

I'd like as large a screen as possible but not sure if this is going to be viable with my budget?

The ones I've found so far that I've liked have been the Nexus 7, Nook hd+ or the Acer Iconia.

The problem with the Nexus 7 is the lack of a microsd port, the nook doesn't run vanilla android although I couldn't find anything wrong with the acer but I haven't checked any reviews yet.

Can you get a separate keyboard for most tablets if they have bluetooth in them?

Is there anyother tablets that I've missed?

The Nexus 7 is better dpi. so yer will look very nice.
I was looking into a tablet b4 xmas and was in similar situation to you other than 7" size was what I was after.
In the end I went for the BBPB, plenty of storage, tab browsing, good camera's front and rear, plays mkv. mp4. moves which I have loaded up 6 upto now and they look great,
Flash support on browser and the microsoft office documents I use for work go straight on it.
GL in your quest.

Ok I think summarises what I've found out about each tablet, anyone get anything else to add to help me make my mind up.

Nexus 7 - good screen dpi, most up to date OS, small screen size, flash doesn't seem to be availible, no expansion slot for a memory card.

Nook HD+ - good screen size and dpi, expansion card slot, however its got a limited non vanilla android OS on it.

Acer Iconia - looks like the nexus 7 with a bigger screen but lower dpi and an expansion slot

Lenovo Ideatab 9'' - older OS than Iconia and Nexus but its got an expansion slot and better dpi.

Or should I maybe just bite the bullet and get an Apple Ipad mini?

The samsung galaxy tab 2 has a 10.1 screen and currently a £50 rebate offer from samsung. Mine cost £238 brand new, after the £50 rebate that will be £188. It has a micro sdport. It runs fine on everthing I have tried so far except the most demanding websites which are a bit slower to load than on our ipad2. Also there is a free upgrade to Android 4.1.1 which is very stable and user friendly.

Just to be aware initially mine ran quite slowly. Once I updated to 4.1.1 and then did a factory reset it now runs smoothly for films, youtube, netflix etc. There is currently no hdmi adapter for this tablet. Also it is a dual core with 1GB of ram , not a problem now but may be when new games demanding quad core cpu's come out.

I have got an aurora a mate has a mars and a photographer mate also has a fire. Speed wise they are pretty good and those which have the ips screens look fantastic from any angle, very vivid.
The hero original wasnt bad but I expect the II to be even better.

I have tried numerous different Android tablets and have been underwhelmed with them all, so decided to get an iPad Mini and am so happy with it (even though in general I prefer Android, I have now decided that for me Android = phone, Apple = tablet).

In your position I would probably look for a Tab 2 10.1 as it should do what you want and do it well.

You can purchase an OTG cable for a couple of quid. The cable coupled with Nexus media importer (link) enables you to access USB pens, hard drives etc. You can even plug an Xbox 360 or PS3 controller in to play games!

Erm no....the Nexus 7 is superior in almost every way.

Whats the Nexus like for browsing the web or watching content for a long time, eg iplayer or other catchup services, compared to something with a larger screen but lower resolution?

Think its really the nexus 7 or the Acer Iconia a210.

I've found it ideal to watch TV via TVcatchup and iplayer. I reguarly place it next to my monitor and use it to view stuff whilst working on my PC.

I personally wouldn't touch anything built by Acer again, everything I've ever seen produced by them has had poor build quality along with uninspiring looks. For example the Acer acer gd24hq 120Hz monitor I once had continually buzzed in 120Hz mode so I got it replaced. The second one was slightly better but gave up the ghost just 18 months later. The build quality was shoddy to say the least and they seem to have a love of shiny, brittle, cheap looking plastic which they can't even spray evenly! (orange overspray on the stands of both models I had)

That's not to say ASUS haven't had a few build issues of their own with the Nexus, especially the screenlift problem. Apparently though these have now been ironed out and both mine and the wifes are perfect :)

Yes that's right the Missus was so impressed with mine she bought one herself!

BTW you might be better off asking your questions in the other tablet sub forum as it tends to get significantly more views - link

There's also ***The official Google Nexus 7 Thread*** over there too - link

Note 10.1 definitely. I have an IPad from work which I don't use because it's just boring. I absolutely adore Android (unlike most other girls I know) because of the freedom and the emulators.

Would be a great suggestion, except that the OP has already stated he cannot get the Note.

I got the nexus 7 in the end as the end as it was far easier to hold compared to the ten inch tablets.

Would definitely recommend it to anyone as the screen clarity is amazing especially for web browsing. Just need to get a small keyboard for it so I can type easier on it.
