hi guys

well heres me trying to play fifa on my xbox and its as laggy as hell and i know this is because the kids are also thrashing the net with silly youtube vids and their phones/laptops.

dont wanna keep changing the password all the time.

is their a way i can put the mac addresses of each device in my router and then just switch them off from connecting to the net.

be great you could actually use a piece of desktop software cuz im getting fed up.

just checked now

my laptop is on and thats it for me

but other connections

1st son

phone
netbook i can hear that ksi idiot somust be him
xbox playing cod no doubt

2nd son
phone streaming spotify
laptop

no wonder my fifa suffers

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp:D

sorted it i think in my router i have something calleda wireless station list which i can add devices to.

i can turn it on and it will only allow the devices i set to connect :)

when off all devices can connect as long as they have ssid and password

muwaaaaah

Some Routers out there will have a scheduling option in the firewalling and access profiles.

This would allow you to control what devices can and cannot connect to the Internet and when. Without having to manually turn things on and off.

I too am interested in this but turning there internet off is a bit harsh :D anyway of restricting bandwidth?

QoS rules.

Most routers support some sort of basic QoS. Usually it's based on source IP address, which means you may need to register MAC addresses for DHCP reservations so the IPs remain consistent within your network.

Probably easiest to set it up that specific IPs you've bound to DHCP reservations get priority, then throttle everything else, I.E all the unknown devices that might connect to the network, like their mates iphone etc.

It depends on the router. Some will allow you to restrict specific MAC addresses (i.e. computer) bandwidth and also set up 'guest' wireless points. The guest wireless is useful as that comes with a bandwidth limit usually.

Restricted to sky's superb router! :( unless you can tell me otherwise?? Got a belkin n1 not doing anything. Thx for the info guys, i will have a look into it.

I sorted this by restricting mac addresses in the router.but thing is none of them come up by name is there a way I can name each device so I don't have to revert to good old peice of paper with mac addy on it and which is which lol.

I've got the fastest broadband I can for my area so can't get anymore which is currently 20 meg and im only yards from the exchange :-)
