Hi guys - I'm at my wits end, and would appreciate some help.

My dad's PC has been problematic - he has always had issues with McAfee Security Suite.

I figured I would uninstall it, and install an alternative, such as AVG.

It seemed McAfee won't uninstall - I tried all sorts of methods, including Safe Mode, but it seemed to remain lurking - when you log on, pop ups appear indicating elements are missing etc.

TO cap it all - the internet now won't connect - the modem is all ok, but the internet explorer isnt working at all.

I figured I would copy all his useful things onto disc, and reinstall windows.

Inserted XP Home Disc, and it says it won't install as the disc version is older than the installed version.

I'm very frustrated! especially with McAfee that seems to leach itself into the PC. Someone else has said they had the same problems and had to format their drive.

What can I do?

Please help!

Thanks!

I have discovered that the SPORDER.DLL file has been deleted by McAfee, that seems to be a problem with it!

This file is only 4k in size, but it seems if it's absent, it causes all kind of mayhem, including the internet and email.

It's basically copied into the system 32 folder, and it solves issues.

At least that's the plan!
