Help me please

Hi, i need to gain access to a few files on my laptop, it doesn't currently have an operating system installed. Files are in a seperate partition.

I remeber a couple of years back having a free, bootable operating system that ran off a CD.. can anyone link me to one as i cannot find it at the moment.

Knoppix? Pretty much any decent Linux Live CD should see you through OK.
