This really is a last resort, as I REALLY didn't want to ask this on here. But I'm left with no choice.

Basically, GTA:IV is coming out (obviously), and I want it. And I want it badly. So badly that I will be buying a next gen console to play it on, but that's the problem. Normally I would have bought it on the 360 without thinking about it, solely due to the price and the fact a lot of my friends will have it on the 360. But my brother has a 360. This doesn't detur me too much, but I just think that I may as well get a PS3 for the variety. Would having two 360s in the same house be that much of a big deal?

Ok, I know the can of worms that I've opened up asking this, so here is what I would like:

1) Post stating the good and bad points of one, or both consoles.

2) Do not quote, or reply to other peoples posts for any reason.

3) In addition to the good and bad points, if you could give some of your actual thoughts and feelings towards the consoles themselves, that would be appreciated.

I know this is futile, and I know how this thread will probably end up... But I'm really stuck.

Thanks for any half decent posts. :p

Ok, sorted. Could a mod please close?

But seriously, I hadn't even considered that. 360 LAN. Thanks. ;)

get the Ps3 for variety, plenty of games due out on Ps3 this year and forwards to own both systems even if the 360 will probably be used more right now due to bigger back catalogue of games. Then you also have Blu-Ray player also as a bonus and access to PSN games.

Thats if you can afford it

im with monkey man,i would get the ps3 because.....
1.it's out selling the 360 in the uk.
2.it's sony so it's gonna be good.
3.it's got blu-ray....the new format.
4.as someone else said....there is some good title's coming out.

Wow, that is probably the most heinous (uninformed) fanboy post i've seen to date.

Its sony, so its gonna be good? What. What.

Same for you! I see what you're saying, but I would really like for this thread to stay on track. :p

From memory aren't you in your last year of college/sixth form ?

If so, think of which console you'd rather have at uni (if you're going of course !)

Otherwise with a game like this I'd just go for the console with the better controller, or is cheaper :o

I would be in my last year, but I've started a new course again this year, so next year will be my last year. That's very nice of you to remember though. :p

But that's a very good point. I love the idea of having some friends around for a bash on GTA or something. But for that, I think the Wii may have to come into play. ARGH.. No, GTA GTA PS3 or 360!1!1one

Thanks for the post. :p

PS3:
  • Easier interface than 360
  • Sixaxis motion controls - good when done properly
  • Blu ray movies
  • Satisfying variety of titles
  • Quieter - fans don't drown out atmosphere of games
  • Home is coming - Virtual trophy cabinet and rooms - mainly for ****s and giggles
  • Support for most bluetooth and usb accessories (webcams, headsets, keyboards, mouse, etc), as well as hard drives. Also has built in WiFi.
  • Free online multiplayer

360
  • Full in-game XMB (or whatever its called) - listen to music, chat to friends, etc (note: PS3 also has music, chatting and game inviting implemented in some games)
  • Achievement points if that's what you're into
  • More ergonomic gamepad
  • A lot of titles, including some that look/perform better than on PS3
  • More people have 360s
  • Cheaper (Note you'll pay extra for WiFi, headset keyboard and webcam -as they have to be 360 branded)

I think it's worth noting that most cross-platform titles look and perform equally on both consoles now. And each has their own exclusives.

My PS3 is 'in use' more than my 360. But this is just because of my personal situation. The interface is easy to use for anyone in my family. Its media centre capabilities are used by the family quite often - eg. photo slideshows have a nice 3d effect, the music player has great visualiser effects, video playback has useful options and also the console is quiet so you don't hear it in the background. Online multiplayer is free and there's a nice variety of minigames to play.

That's what I was hoping for, an opinion from someone that owns both. For the record, my console would be sat right next to my PC. So I'm not sure if that compromises some of the media capability that the PS3 has over the 360? That's one thing that has always really annoyed me about the 360, the fact that it can only play .wmv... I mean what the hell?! :p Who encodes their stuff to .wmw? Thanks for your post by the way. :)

As for GTA:IV being played online, yes, it will be played a hell of a lot online. As will single player, but I will definitely be playing lots and lots online. :D

Thanks for all of the input so far.

I don't own both, but i live in a student house that has both. I own a PS3 and a mate owns the 360. Both are excellent, but i really must stress how great it is to have the best of both worlds available to you. We probably spend equal time on each one and while i do think if i bought a 360 too, lanning it would be cool, i wouldn't trade that for the ability to play games like resistance and GT5:P one day and then move straight on and play Gears of war and project gotham the next day.

What i would recommend is, buy a ps3, get GTA4 for it, if it turns out you MUST have the DLC when it comes out sell the ps3 version and borrow your bros 360 to play it. That way you won't miss out on the gems that the PS3 has to offer in the future and will still have access to the awesome library of games on the 360.
