Ok i have a asus a8v mobo and cant seem to get the on bord sound working with vista 64bit i dont no what else to try, realtec drivers dont work for some reason and the sound isnt reconised in hardwere

yes it is, i have looked all over the net and only found one thing abt using the realtek rc1 hd audio drivers but cant seem to find them anywere so can't try that either.

did you try using the audio driver from cd, and the driver from the asus site?

should also be drivers at the realtek site.

one of them should work.

driver from cd is xp only so wont work and there arnt any vista drivers on the site, i really dont no what to do as my pci sound card is abit rubbish and i cant hear my vent over css and bf2 etc.

You probably saw on the realtek site it says

AC'97 Audio Codecs

Audio drivers available for download from the Realtek website are general drivers for our audio ICs, and may not offer the customizations made by your system/motherboard manufacturer. To be sure you obtain the full features/customizations provided in your original audio product, please download the latest drivers from your system/motherboard manufacturer's website.

your motherboard audio obviously does not support vista 64bit or vista 32bit because there are no audio drivers for those OS on the asus site, the drivers for vista on the realtek site must be for later editions of realtek audio chip on motherboards that do support vista. Also from the above information your motherboard audio might require a special driver from asus and not direct from realtek.

your only choice is to try and mess with the latest realtek vista 64bit driver, or do some googling/research to find out what might help you get it working.

failing that you'll have to look for a new motherboard (probably not ideal since you're on socket 939 since it's old now it would be better to upgrade cpu and mobo). Or get yourself a new sound card like a creative x-fi especially if you game a lot on your pc.

i will prob have to upgrade or get a better sound card then as i have looked all over the net to no avail, my poor old trusty pc is showing its age now :(
