hi guys .. my pc seems a bit too noisy for the stuff i bought .. :S

stuff that could be making a noise :

OCZ 600W PSU - though everyone else says they're nice and quiet

2 x Hiper 120mm fans for the true push - pull http://www.hipergroup.com/products.php?lv=3&cate=15&type=17&pid=48 which are rated by the retailer as 20 db.

the 4 case fans can be found here http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Chassis/fulltower/kandalf/va9000swa.asp and are all rated under 20 db.

so why am i hearing so much noise? =P

and a pic of ze setup http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll54/Mitch92uK/IMAGE_008.jpg .. (normally the side of the case is on)

cheers!

how fast are the fans running? what is the sound like? is it a high pitched annoying sound?

The noise is just like a low pitched dull hum .. nothing high pitched.

OCZ PSU isn't StealthXstreme is it? I've got one and those are things are anything but silent, so there is your problem right there AFAIK it has a Yate Loon in it rated at 40db. It's by far the loudest thing in my case.

EDIT: Just looked at your pic, when you have so many fans close to each other you need to make sure they run at low RPM.

It is the StealthXStream yeah mate :/

How does the speedfan reading look for rpm's ?

Are they connected to the 3 pin headers on your motherboard or connected directly to your power supply.

The 2 CPU fans, rear 120 extraction fan and the front intake are all connected to 3 pin mobo headers, with the exception of one cpu fan being connected to the 3 pin section of a 4 pin CPU_FAN header.

As neoboy says, the 'quiet' OCZ PSUs are nowhere near as quiet as other brands like Corsair and Enermax.

But I think your biggest problem is that you have six fans in the case, which I presume are running at full speed. That's always gonna be noisy. I'd look into getting rid of some of them, or at least slowing them down - I highly doubt that your PC needs four case fans.

To compare, here is my setup (excuse the messy cables):

Both the case fans run at 1200rpm and the CPU fan at 900rpm, so it's pretty quiet. I run Folding@Home so my CPU (Q6600 @ 3.2) and my GPU (8800GT) are always 100% loaded. The CPU runs at about 60c in CoreTemp and the GPU at 50c.

So I'd say you could dump a few of the fans to cut the noise, especially if you're not hammering your components all the time. Your temps are pretty low.

hmm .. rather than get rid of the fans i'd prefer just to slow them all right down tbh mate. only problem is when i play with speedfan lowering the percentages nothing happens
