I have a budget of about £1500/1800.

I'm pretty sold on the GTX 1080, I feel as if that will be a card to keep me going for a few years.

I also plan on adding another 1080 to the build in the future, so SLI would be preferred.

I basically want this thing to run whatever I throw at it, at full throttle.

In terms of the motherboard and cooler, I'm not sure if they're the best options.

I would change the 6700k to a 5820k for the extra 2 cores and obviously to X99. If planning on going SLI I would get a 850w, running 2 980ti's easily myself on a 850w but 750w would be cutting it short.
 
And here comes the z170 vs x99 debate...


The build itself looks ok. That motherboard is quite pricey.

I would use an nvme m.2 SSD as well. Saves wires and is faster than a regular sata SSD.

As above. A 750W will run 1080s in SLI. But a 850W would probably be a more comfortable fit.

That one is 240mm plenty good enough for a 6700K but the 280mm Corsair AIOs are cheaper right now. Also, wouldn't you like white RAM for that motherboard and the glass version of the Phanteks case?

There's simply no debate, why pay for a quad core chip when the 5820k has 6 cores, can be overclocked to perform great in gaming and is better for anything else.
 
Followed some suggestions and here is my updated build. Like the look of that.

that case comes with 3 fans + the ones on your cpu cooler... id ditch those 2 noctua fans as they wont really be needed... theres nothing wrong with the included fans
 
I only added them because a lot of reviews on the Corsair H fans said the stock ones can run quite loud in comparison.
 
The Noctua industrials can be loud at full speed - any fan is. IIRC they also draw a bit more current than regular fans, so unless you're using a fan controller, don't use fan splitters and put one on each channel.

You could just hold off buying more fans until you've got the system up and running. Once you see what the noise levels are like, you can decide if you want to change the fans. £23.99 is a lot for one fan, so it may be worth waiting to see if you're happy with the noise levels first.

When both are overclocked the i7 5820K is still slower for gaming. You are also looking at an extra £100 or so for X99.
 
In the last spec, the H100i v2 cooler takes 2 x 120mm and the Noctua fans are 140mm. Need a 280mm AIO or change fans or try out the stock ones.

Literally this. a 5820k Is the much better option especially for any form of multitasking and you will regret it when the DX12 API is in full effect and you would actually be able to use those extra cores.
 
Will take the extra fan advice into consideration, thanks guys. The CPU debate is confusing the hell out of me at the moment! Got until the 26th before I get paid so hopefully the debate will be settled by then!
