im going to have to just say parts of it that i remember and hope someone gets it and i remember it from what they put...

i think its set in korea or china

some kids (i think, teenagers sort of age) have to break someone out of a prison as hes due to be killed (possibly family member?)

its over 10 years old by now

i think i can remember a scene with some boats shooting at them, pretty sure they were in a speedboat

thats about all i can remember so far but ill try and list more as they come to me, anyone who gets it right and makes me remember it properly gets a pint (if in the unlikely event i ever see them in person :p)

very weak description so far, but ill keep trying to remember :D

the only film i can think of that sounds remotely like that is Battle Royale II, but i'm sure thats not what your thinking of.

and by remotely i mean boats shooting at children and them breaking into a huge building/fortress on an island - i'm not being an idiot and getting the story for BR wrong film buffs :p

I think I know the one you mean. A bit of a google reveals a film called "The Rescue" from 1988 which fits the bill, but I can't remember it well enough to be sure if that's the one.

ah ha that sounds like a possible one, ill investigate that one a bit further

EDIT: lol yes thats the one, nice one xyphic, no particular reason i wanted to know the name, i was just looking for a film to watch and found some really old videos including home videos of me as 1 year and 1month old , reminded me of one of my fave films as a kid (the rescue)

Wow your parents had a camcorder in 1988? Rich parents! Was it BETAMAX or VHS?

It would be one of those absolutely massive ones which you put a full size VHS tape in that you still see Americans carrying on holiday :D
In 1988 I had the first AMSTRAD one wich was the cheapest on the market at £400 and didn't have zoom and used VHS-C tapes.

haha would explain why there in a bit of debt now then :p i think it was a VHS one (and i also think we still have it in the attic :o )

my family had a video recorder in 1987, i know because ive got my christening on tape!

its not one of the full VHS ones, its got "video 8" tapes for it, so i guess its 8mm lol :p

tis all in the loft now, with the tape player for it too.
