i know the i5 rig will treat me better but would the 955 be okay? i have a 6950 which ill most possibly unlock to a 6970, any reccommendations please???

thanks :)

In the first rig, you've got a unlocked processor with H61 board, which you won't be able to overclock with. So I suggest moving down to a 2400 processor, which will still be quicker than the 955.

thanks for the reply,, ive not looked into intel boards and cpu's much atall so im not to sure on how they all work, how comes i cant oc with a h61 board??

If you want to overclock you need to be looking at the p67 boards for the 2500k - ~£100 minimum but would be cracking setup for the extra money.

This is all you would need - link - it's an extra £40 on your intel build but you would get a, virtually, guaranteed clock of 4.3Ghz - 4.4 Ghz with little fuss.

And if it was for gaming and light apps use the CPU would last you a pretty long time - certainly worth the extra £40.

EDIT: Although this slightly goes against the cryteria of your original post...

EDIT x 2: Look at it as a future saving ;) But if money is really tight then giving us a maximum total would help and its intended use.

thanks, so a p67 is definatley the best option and most futureproof? money is tight but it will most likely alwasy be tight as im only a student on £15 a week from chores so i want the most futureproof option :P

You may want to wait a while for bulldozer to hit. This will bring new line of motherboards and CPU's. So prices on other hardware may drop a little.

In theory

i realised my dad can get me VAT back as he owns a PC buissness, so its going to be a 'display model' :P so i added a case as my stock acer one is like an oven :P heres the final list, by the time i have the money, chances are Bulldozer will be out and ill have to see what the competitions like, ive been an amd fanboy from day one with their price/performance value, but theyre just pee'ing me off now with no news on it...

They are due out in June I think 20th not sure on the exact date.

MSI P67A -C45 (if your using a single gfx card this is more than adequate) - £105
2500K - £168
OCZ DDR3 4Gb - £36

This is a lot of hardware for just over £300 and with a decent cooler (£30) would give you a substantial clock and last you at 'least' a couple of years with your intended use (light apps use gaming?).

Now look at the price of the motherboards - Socket LGA1366 -swings and round abouts.

The 2500K is a better choice for your requirements.

If you're not in any immediate hurry wait - but there will always be something better waiting around the corner. But in this particular instance it's only weeks away and not months... ;)

TBH, whatever you decide, be it a 2500K or you wait for the bulldozer you'll have a cracking system for ~£300.
