So im learning about networks by making my own at home it seems.

I have recently bought a microserver now outfitted with 4GB ram and 12Tbs of HDD space. what i need to do is pipe the output from the server to its relevant locations and i dont know how to do it. I havent even installed the OS yet

I was thinking home plugs to go from the server to its 2 targets, is this just as simple as having 3 plugs in the wall by the 2 pcs and server? does the one at the server need to be any different to the others?

What sort of speeds are you likely to obtain via home plugs? the toughest things i need to stream are HD TV/blu rays at full uncompressed bit rates and possibly 2 different streams simultaneously to both pcs at the same time.

I want to put my live tv card (HD freeview) into the htpc as from what i gather you can stream the output to the pc via XBMC with some addons?
Is the microserver with WHS 2011 capable of this hardware wise? (the tv card will physically fit as its a 1x pci-e). if this is not possible i will have to buy a tv card for each PC

thanks

Looks like homeplugs arent going to be enough from blu ray bit rates..

what do i need in terms of gigabit network apart from cables? I dont know much but i need a switch right? recommendations? i only ned to power two wired devices atm so 4-5 ports?

what speed of home plugs are you using?

havent got them yet. everything is yet to be purchased

i have the server and the 2 pcs only that just talk to the wifi router wirelessly
no cables, switch or potential plugs

I use home plugs here (200 meg) and they are fine for streaming the MKV i have on my Media PC. When you get a switch make sure its a gigabit one..

One thing about the homeplugs is that they have to be the same speed to work together.

thats one thing i do know! My MKVs are full uncompressed blu rays and there will be many times when someone might be watching the TV (via server) and someone watching something on the PC. from the speeds people are reporting with home lugs this doesnt seem enough

im not quite sure everything i want to do is even doable yet
