Hi! Thanks for looking. I bought a Mcculloch R800, a slightly older model without many connectivity features but it had got decent reviews.

Im planning setting up the Boundary wire and a guide wire and would appreciate your input.
I know its not rocket science but its a lot of effort and would prefer it to be good from the go :P

Here's a terrible google earth image of the property and ill try to explain whats going on.

The tHin green line is obviously the boundary wire. Its in total , with Islands (optional ones in yellow?) somewhere between 250 -275 meters..... Not completely decided if they are all needed.

The red line and circle is a raised flower bed area and incline that i think is unfortunately too steep for the mower to climb. I will have to test this but it shouldn't add much extra cable if its ok. it is however about 1m wide max on the passable incline.

The yellow Circles are bushes and the central one is a greenhouse, patio and more raised beds. Im not sure they need to be Islanded off maybe just put something coliadable so it can bounce off instead of trying to chop the patio area, its not a huge deal just more cable laying.... if necessary.

The blue dotted line is the guide wire leading from the green green splodge base station. I put it here because its currently the easiest place closest to the power supply. The guide line should get it out of the slightly confined area its bigger than it looks on this low res pic. If its no good here i'm thinking of moving it to the "south" nearer to the grey white square bouday that intersects the long pathway. Nearer to the islanded tree, although its dropping pine cones, which will be an issue later, for another day.
I also think the guidewire to the front area is the only way the thing will ever find its way to the front.
Can you tell them to follow the wire like 25% of the time you go clipping? so it doesn't always devote its start to the front?

I understand that if it has trouble getting to an area u can just pick it up and set it to manual and let it cut till its battery dies.... I guess it an option for the area above the base station to the right of the red circle.

Any suggestions? Improvements? Need explanations....

The lawn needs a lot of work but i wont be doing much this year. It'll be buried under a ton if snow in a few months after all :P

Cheers.

I can only speak from experience of my Husqvarna automower but i guess they should have broadly similar settings.

I'd say anything larger than a bush you don't need to boundary off, i made islands of all my fruit trees and bushes in my orchard and now the trees have been in a couple of years there'd be really no need for it. The bushes however do really need the island around them. For raised beds i let mine just bump into them and go on its way.

As a general rule id say if the trunk of the tree is more than 3cm it'll be fine just to bounce off it.

I agree you'll need a guidewire to get round the front of your house, with mine i can set what % of time it follows each guidewire when leaving the base station, so i've got it to start 40% of the time following guidewire 1 for example which leads into my orchard.

With the slopes i found the manufactures guidance very accurate on what slopes it'll cope with so if your slope is 'out of spec' for your mower don't try and force it as it'll just churn up the ground trying to climb it all the time.

You can also like you say pick it up and tell it to mow a secondary area for an amount of time or util the battery runs out. I have to do this as i have an area cut off by a patio but if you can avoid that i really would as its a bit of a nuisance picking it up twice a week and putting it back.
