It is a great deal in its own right, although only about £5 cheaper than the individual parts...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-003-OB&groupid=701&catid=339&subcat=1333

1 X Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Socket LGA1366) - OEM
1 X Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
1 X Kingston HyperX 6GB (3x2GB) Intel XMP DDR3 12800C9 1600MHz Tri-Channel Kit (KHX12800D3K3/6GX)
1 X Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler
1 X Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

Would really like to get similar performance but uner £500...

Would simply swapping for the cheaper

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58

Still give me what I need to break the magin 4ghz barrier...

Maybe I can shave some more off...???

I don't think you're going to manage it for less without considerable luck. The thread which introduced the bundle specified that with cheaper motherboards it was much more difficult to reach 4ghz.

About the only money saving option is dropping to 3gb of equivalently quick ram, unless you already own a very good cpu cooler. 4ghz i7 for under 500 is pretty optimistic at the moment

edit: performance at what? a 4ghz core two duo system will give i7 a run for its money for gaming, and for most other things. Under folding, the i7 dominates which suggests that properly multthreaded things will be a fair bit faster under the i7. What do you want the system to do? You can manage something very quick for 500, but it wont have i7 written on it

If you go with the ud3r then it will be £482 inc vat.
add the AS and delivery if you dont get it free, and it will still be under your £500 budget.

I bought a ud3r i920, the OCZ 1600 ram and a true recently.
Was impressed with the combo and have just ordered the same again with the exception of swapping the true for the titan.

Note: Get the OCZ 1600 RAM, with a BCLK of 200MHZ which is what you are shooting for. the RAM will run at 1600 with the 8x multi.

The OEM chip may or may not have a locked memory multi, if it does then it will be locked at 8 and you will be cursing yourself for not getting 1600 RAM.

PS
I have ordered an OEM 920 this time round, wasn't aware they may be locked till well after i hit the buy button :(
Will report later today if it is locked.
I'll be a bit miffed if it is but it won't be a show stopper as the locked settings will be the ones i run with for 4GHZ anyway.

Update
Shouldn't have worried OEM chip is not locked same multi's as my retail.
