Hi all,

My nephew's birthday is next week and he's asked his mum and dad for a laptop or computer to play Starcraft 2 on. The budget he's got is £450 they've asked me to see what I can come up with.
Finding a laptop that will run SC2 comfortably is probably not going to happen any time soon. So I've kindly offered to give him my old PC and with £450 I'm thinking I should be able to spec something that will do the job.

This is what I have

Asus P5B Deluxe (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard
Antec 900 Nine Hundred Case

Things I don't have...

Hard Drive
Monitor
Keyboard & Mouse
Speakers (2.1 will do)

Any advice would be very much appreciated

sorry if im being a bit dense here, but are you offering him your old PC with £450 of upgraded bits for a bday present, are you offering him your old PC, and spending £450 on a replacement for yourself?

The system still looks quite capable, just up the GPU for something with more poke.

I wouldn't want to be using cheap nasty keyboard and mouse in the heat of a gaming battle.

also, the OP's son will probably notice a really nice keyboard + mouse more than a slightly better.

my only other suggestion would be an old model SSD (your mobo doesnt have SATA 3 connections, which new SSD'd need to work at full speed). its a shame the ~80GB OCZ vertex one has disappeared from OcUK's shelves as that would have been perfect

Both spec's look pretty good there, thanks.
I wasn't expecting anyone to spec a new mobo and cpu so you've done well there anilkiral.
