i'm having a major problem with my virtual network with vmware server. each virtual machines couldnt see each other, cant ping etc

what i want -

my laptop IP 192.168.1.69 (DHCP by router) via wireless adaptor

----------------------------(virtual networking)

VM1 -server 2003 (192.168.0.1)

VM2 - XP pro (192.168.0.2)

VM3 - XP pro (192.168.0.3)

etc etc

how?

thanks for the reply

just the 2003 server VM connect to internet but clients (XP VMs) behind 2003 server VM so i can config to sharing internet to clients.

thanks

best thing to do is configure all vm's with host only on the network cards, add another network card into the server 2003 vm and set that to bridged or NAT whatever you want to use

something like this. i want the virtual networking to behave like a real network with a server and clients, all clients connect to server, server connect to internet. i dont want server and clients connect to my laptop as NAT. i want to config server to share internet, active directory etc. as if in real networking environment

thanks :)

i'd go for the easy route. have them all as bridged connections.

the server would point to itself for dns and the default gateway would be the ip of the router.

the clients would point towards the server for dns and again use the ip of the router for the default gateway. completely pointless using the server for nat if you ask me....

server 2003 VM
LAN 1 - Bridged
LAN 2 - NAT (192.168.0.1)

XP VM1 - NAT (192.168.0.2)

XP VM2 - NAT (192.168.0.3)

correct? what about virtual network editor? do i need to change anything there?

thanks

1) i still don't see why you want to use nat (unless tinkering with isa server or something like that)
2) if you must persevere, that setup is wrong. see ruffneck's post above. :)

FINALLY!! got it working now

Guest 1 (server 2003) , LAN 1 set as Bridged, LAN 2 set as spare VNET2

then ICS enabled on LAN 1

Guest 2 (XP) LAN 1 set as VNET2, static IP, 192.168.0.2, gateway - 192.168.0.1

so Guest VM access internet via server 2003, not via router as Bridged

thanks :)
