Hello,

I'm configuring a new tower for myself as a birthday present.

I play games at 3440x1440 with a max of 100 FPS.

I have this setup in my cart but wonder if there are better options. My budget is flexible, but I’d prefer to stay around the £2,000 mark. I can stretch it by a few hundred if necessary, considering this system needs to last at least five years.

Ideally, I'd hang on until March for AMD to release their new cards rather than buying an XTX right now.

Antec's version of the Vertex is cheaper, you could get their 1000 watt model for less.

Seems pricey, can you get the phantom spirit for that?

If some one spare a minute and coment on CPU+MOBO+RAM combo. it's the weak area of mine.
do i need x870 mobo. planing to run this pc in default config. Plug and play.

RAM is suitable (6000 / C30 is generally recommended for price/perf on AM5), but you will need to enable EXPO which is not strictly default or "plug and play", since it is actually a form of overclocking.

X870's main features are PCI-E 5.0 graphics and USB4. If you don't care about either of those, you can use a cheaper board like B650 or B850.

The ASRock Pro RS performed well in HUB's roundup (thermally) and is one of the cheapest X870 boards you can get.

If you want to go really basic, A620 or B840 are also options and their VRM is usually sufficient for the 9800X3D. These boards may only have 1 or 2 M.2 slots, but do check.

This is more or less an accurate summary:

X870E, X670E
USB4 (for X870E)
PCI-E 5.0 graphics
1-3 PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slots
4-5 M.2 slots
2.5 Gb, 5 Gb or 10 Gb LAN

X870, X670, B650E
USB4 (for X870)
PCI-E 5.0 graphics (not required for X670)
1-2 PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slots
3-4 M.2 slots
2.5 Gb LAN

B650, B840, A620
PCI-E 4.0 graphics
0-1 PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slots
1-3 M.2 slots
1Gb or 2.5 Gb LAN

B650 / B650e are solid Board with an X3D CPU.
i have an Asus Tub B650 wifi and its an amazing board good build quality and as everything we would ever need before it obsolete

lol sorry random post...
<<< i got a new photo hahah i assume for 1000 postage @Tetras why dose your say man of honour.

No. I don't work for OCUK.

They're chosen every year, see here for the latest:

I can't find 2022.

The cooler says designed for those sockets only, so I'd assume you can't use it on AM5?

990 Evo is a bit pricey for just 1TB, I'd look at Crucial's T500 2TB or Kingston's Fury Renegade 2TB (they're both higher-end TLC drives with DRAM).

Note that the wireless version of that board is £10 more. You could also consider the newer B850 boards, if you don't care about USB4.

CPU cooler= totaly for looks. Noctua 15 slightly to bulky.
You'd save a lot of money with a peerless assassin, but eh.

1 x WD Black SN770 2TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS200T3X0E) (SKU: HD-58G-WD) = £109.99
No idea about system SSD, but this one sells a lot, so should be good.
They're not bad drives (DRAMless), TLC, decent endurance and perform well, but Crucial's T500, Fury Renegade and WD SN850X are high-end drives with DRAM.

Not bothered about USB4, then?

replace this with a PA120. that can be had for £30

what resolution are you playing at if its 4k or in many cases 1440p you spending way too much on a CPU that makes little to no differance
the X3D's are amazing at 1080p, and a little better at 1440p

you have maxed out your CPU but go mmmmm for GPU, im not saying the 7900xtx is bad its just not the maxed out choice
