Hi everybody,

First things first this is my first post here  and so i will try not to be an annoying kid on the forums. I'm 17 and i have used computers all my life and have (until now) never appreciated the technology of them (i have just turned em on and expected em to do what i want em to) But now i want an uber system exactly as i want it, therefore i'm gonna build my own !!

But here's the problem, i dunno how  n that's where you lot come in ! ;)

lol but seriously i have been doing months of research and i just firstly wanted to tell everyone what i have come up with and you can say "nah thats stupid you can't do that" or "nah you would be better to have one of these" obviously i hoe you can be more specific than that cos its just an example !!

Ok well now i will post the text file i came up with quickly the other night whilst brows t'internet:-

CPU
CPU should support 1333 FSB
(For QX6700) Motherboard must support 65nm
Intel Core 2 Duo QX6700
£450-650 (somewhere)

CPU Cooler
*SEARCHING!*

Motherboard
Asus Striker Extreme 680i SLI

Graphics Card
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB (Probably another one at a later date)
Dangerden waterblock?
£530 (OCUK)

RAM
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator
£430 (OCUK)

Case
I DUNNO !

HD
Western Digital Raptor X 150 GB
(2nd one at a later date)
£160 (OCUK)

Optical Drives
Use current drives upgrade at a later date.
£0 !

PSU
Enermax Galaxy 1000W
£234 (OCUK)

As you can see i have little notes here and there and you can robably tell from these how little i know about building a computer. I'm half expecting peeps to say "Don't build your first system ever with such expensive parts" but i mean ... this is the system i want and if its possible to build it i really do want to lol. So i hope i dont fry my motherboard while trying to build it.

Now i have seperated the men from the boys (if you have read this far then your in the man group) all i am asking is some little advice here and there just some handy tips and such. OH YEAH and i read the sticky in general hardware and found it was really good at teaching me the basics.

So thanks for reading and now ... fire away !!

Hey, welcome to the forums :)

Some real high spec components there!

Dangerden waterblock - only needed for water cooling! I'm gonna guess you're using air. Read up on the differences between water cooling and air cooling if you're not too sure!

CPU Cooler - get a CPU cooler. You do get one with the CPU if you buy retail, but they're noisy and inefficient. Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 is my choice, but there's better ones around too. They must fit the right socket (775).

Motherboards, popular ones for socket 775 CPU's are: Asus P5B-E Plus, Asus P5B Deluxe, Gigabyte 965P DS3/DS4/DQ6. They're good clockers and popular (so tend to have more comunity support).

I can't help but feel the 1000W PSU is overkill... 650W should still be plenty IMO :)

About the Dangerden waterblock, i was reading up on the BFG 880 GTX card and it said something like Dangerden and BFG have worked together on it? So i was just writing that in there cos i wondered if it required me to buy this component from Dangerden.

Ok i need a CPU cooler as well, thanks for this info will get right on it!

About the motherboard, what is your oinion of the one i chose?

Thanks a lot mate !

EDIT - Wow that Antec 900 looks pretty cool thanks for that

Yeah, they probably worked together on it, but you only need it if you're integrating watercooling into the 8800 and for watercooling you need a pump, resevoir, radiator, tubes, etc. Air is much simpler and IMO you don't need more for casual overclocking, it's only when you start going for silence or extreme overclocking you need water ;)

My opinion? Overpriced for what it is... I don't think you'd get much benefit from that mobo over a GA-965p-DQ6 or a P5B Deluxe :) But I'm no expert on sli or xfire ... I've never had or intended to have two graphics cards ;) Someone else will have to guide you regarding that!

Do you have a budget?

Thanks for your helpfulness !

Nope i do not have a budget to speak of, for now anyway !
Do these other motherboards support sli graphics cards because it is not an option to buy a mobo without sli capability for me because in the future i will definitely be buying another graphics card. Also do they support the Quad core CPU becuase i want no less than this !

Thanks
