Hi again

I'm now happy with my 24/7 cpu oc at 4.75ghz so it's time to tune my memory, only I'm not too sure on where to start.

Memory is currently at 2400mhz 11-13-11-30-1t trfc of 114.

I have an absolute wealth of memory timing options of which I'll post some screens of this evening. Also have quite a few voltage options on the memory too.

Post all your timings and I will try to help. You wanting a bench setting or 24/7 tuning because at that speed your not gonna be able to tighten up much without volts. Depending on seconds and thirds ofcourse.

PSC will run very tight at high mhz but as with any overclocking you need the volt to stabalise.

Thanks 8 pack I shall grab everything memory related from my bios tonight, iirc the expert setting reveals over 20 timing options which are all at auto with the exception of trfc which is manually set to 114.

Apologies, I will get those screens of my memory options probably tomorrow night, been far too busy clocking my GPU :D

Speaking of which (and to save starting another thread) 8 Pack, any tips for getting a little more voltage from my GPU? Limited to 1.362v, a nudge to 1.4v should see me break 1350mhz.

hmmm better perf on GPU (WHich 7970 do you have???) once you have reached the top volts and top clocks you can either make it colder and run em faster or up the PCI ex bus speed i.e BLK and get more speed that way.

Making 7970's colder they like around -60 - -70 below they loose display and you have to warm em up.

My 7970's like around 105 - 106 BLK to perform at there best. My Nvidia cards like around 109.5 PCI EX bus speed. Your 3820 will like around 131 BLK on the 1.25 divider. Memory then runs 2444mhz.

It's an msi lightning. Colder is unfortunately out of the question just now, I don't have the time nor finances to be playing with phase/cascade/ln2/chillers.

Higher bus/BLK sounds interesting though, would that allow me higher clocks or just for the card to run faster?

If I'm taking the memory beyond its rated 2400mhz I'd better get some pics up of timings and voltage options.

The card would simply run faster as the Bus its placed on is running faster. Try default memory timings for this one initially your dimms should do 2444mhz at stock timings with maybe a very slight voltage bump. This works well then we tune the memory at 2444mhz. To test your graphics you could also run a lower memory divider initially to remove memory from the equation.

Sounds good, if I can get away from work on time tonight I'll have a play at 106x1.25 and set the memory back to its stock timings of 11-13-13 for 2444mhz.

Last night I set my gpu memory to 2000mhz @ 1.7v, I was getting slow downs while benching, what would this indicate to you?

Ahh I thought it might be throttling it's self, seems fine around 1970.

You have an absolute wealth of knowledge, thanks for the help so far:)

Investigating ways to reduce the ambient temps in my case now too.

Thanks for saying about my knowledge I do try pass on some stuff if I can.

Not sure what your trying to achieve bench scores or 24/7???

1970 is probably too high in Benching scores may well be worse you need to test to be honest to find sweet spot. 3D 11 can go higher on mem than Vantage or Unigen just so you know. You probably don't need all that Vdimm to max out memory before ECC Kicks in which will keep the card temps a touch lower.

If your benching side off the case and window open is always your friend so is your coat!!!

When tuning BLK start at 105 and work up

All just for benching, getting a taste for it :)

I'll start the memory at 1800 and work up until scores start to drop off.

Side of the case is always off atm as I screwed up forgot to plug my fan controller so have a molex on the outside of the mid plate :p

I'll keep the window open too but my Mrs is obsessed with having the heating on, I was looking at some small 12v air con units to run at the side of the case.

System refused to boot with a 105 bclk, memory divider set to 16 for 2100mhz, 36x cpu multiplier for ~4.72ghz, voltage at 1.48v.

Some bios screens of my memory options:

I nave not forgot about this but not sure I can do it like this in a forum as I need to go through settings and make adjustments continually. We maybe need to go MSN on this one. We are aiming for 7-11-7-28 or 25 1T but its not that as simple as that sadly.

I see, I'm not on MSN (can easily create an account) but am on steam/origin = pgi947.

Almost forgot about this! I'll be setting up an MSN account shortly (infact I think I can use my aol account on it).

Did you have any joy getting hold of AB extreme 8 Pack?
