are quads really better than duo? im a newbie but i need to point out something. The intel Core 2 Duo E8600 LGA775 'Wolfdale' "Overclocking E0 Stepping" 3.33GHz is £229.99

but the

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) is just £163.29 and both cpu's are found on the same website.

i could have it wrong but if the quad is better than the duo shouldnt it be more expensive.

can some one get back to me and explain fully whats going on cause this is a bit confusing. i think its got something to do with how many cores it has or something along those lines. im into 3d modeling and gaming. i want need many apps running all at once if that helps

cheers

slight dilema

you state 3d modelling / gaming which takes priority ? is it 50/50 or more like 70/30 in favour of gaming ?

gaming - buy an E8400

modelling - buy a Q6600

+1
Basically there arent many games out that can use the four cores, when it comes to gaming its better to go for a duo, imo, because you can get a faster speed out of them which is whats more important (paticuarly when OCing)
However most modeelling apps can use the four cores so if this is your main use you will notice your apps run faster with a quad core than a dual core
