I am planing in buying a new GPU in the next couple of days, its mainly for SWTOR, I did upgrade my PC last month but couldnt afford a new GPU as well.

I now have the following:-

2500k
8GB
8800GTX

For WoW it runs flawlessly, but SWTOR my GPU is really, really struggling.

Now I have a budget of around £200, I was initially going to go for this, OcUK GeForce GTX 560Ti 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card. As I have heard some good things about the 560Ti's performance.

Now a couple of questions,

1. If it is mainly used for MMO's is there any need to go for a 2GB GPU or will a 1GB be fine? Would I notice the difference if I saw the side-by-side?

2. I want to be able to have the option of playing some FPS games BF3 for example, now it doesn't need to max them, but I want to play without any issues.

3. I could stretch to a 6950 if it would be a better option, but it seems that people seem to favour Nvidia over them in terms of performance, support etc. Plus I have heard on SWTOR support forum loads of people having issues with ATI GPUs for some reason which puts me off a little, though I am sure it will be sorted. But I am willing to go ATI if I am going to get more bang for my buck.

Thanks for any help :D

1) At 1080p you should be fine with 1 gig, though there are reports starting to emerge claiming you need more but they are few and far between, and IMO if this ever were the case Id just turn off AA which would free up lots of VRAM

2) Any of these cards will cope with that

3) They're very similar in performance (6950/560Ti) but now the 560s are cheaper thats prob why people are recommending them more, it was more of a toss of a coin when they were similarly priced

I'd personally get one of these as I'd enjoy the aftermarket cooler more (for it being quieter) though if you are concerned about VRAM the 2 gig one is £15 more but using the 5% voucher code and free shipping it brings it in on budget

Ha sorry, saw the "I want a GTX560ti" and just spammed the 448.

1) Depending what res you play at (1080p), 1GB will be fine.

2) BF3 has been shown to use 1.3GB+ of Vram, so you might struggle to play that on a 1GB version. At lower settings, you can play it with a good 50+FPS, but obviously reduced quality.

3) The 6950 is a good card, but If your considering that, hold off until feb for the 7970 to get its foot in the door and hit prices. Personally, ATi only has eyefinity over Nvidia, so unless your looking to use 3 monitors for gaming, Nvidia are better on single screen.

Thanks for the replies guys, thats helped me a lot. With the mention of eyefinity I wasn't wanting to have 3 screens but 2 would be nice as I want to be able to stream on twitch eventually will all the 560s allow me to do this, just so I am playing on one screen and I can have the chatroom open on the other screen?
