Hi all! This is doing my head in, I've got hold of hitman, but i can't launch the damn thing.

The error coming up is "failed to launch game (unknown error)".

I have uninstalled and re installed the game and had no luck, i have also tried to verify game cache files, running as admin (both game and steam) and i have also made sure it isn't an AV issue.

By the way, I have also tried installing the game with and without physical media, so downloading it from steam and installing from disk ... just to confirm it wasn't a missing/corrupt file or something.

It's doing me in :(

drivers are up to date. Nothing flagging up in event viewer either D:

Just installed it on an old amd 5000 and a 460 and it worked straight away! This is a real pain. I even reset all my overclocks :(

Yep, every other games is 100% fine be it on steam, origin or anything.

Running out of troubleshooting ideas here. :p

When you say I've got hold of hitman, do you mean bought, for Steam?

Or do you mean downloaded?

Got it on disk, but it installs right on to steam.

But like i said, tried installing both off the disk and downloading from steam.

You updated Direct X from the DX updater in the game files?

Also have you checked all your video settings are correct in options before the game starts?

Doesn't even get far enough for me to select any video options =/. The message pops up just after the whole "preparing to launch" after clicking play in steam.

I can't find the DX updater in the files anywhere.

This rings a bell, I had something similar once, can't remember the details though.

Have you tried launching the game with Steam in off-line mode?

I have not, currentley away from my home PC. But i remember when trying to launch the HMA.exe for the game it would come up with an error message aswell. Wondering if this is the issue, as on the PC i'm on now it quite happily starts up from it.

If you do remember, please give me a shout :D

edit: I tried to launch the game from CMD too, just got access denied as soon as i hit enter. Confused much! :)

OK, one thing that occurs to me is that you might cancel any and all write-protection for the complete Steam folder using the Windows Explorer.

Stab in the dark but right click exe and properties and change the compatibility mode to windows 7? Worked for me with Max Payne

My friend is having the same issue. What has basically happened is that the EXE file has an error and when you try deleting it and running the steam validation, it doesn't replenish a valid EXE file.

(You can test this by trying to run the game from the directory.)

If anyone knows any fixes I'd be grateful! :D
