So I'm writing my dissertation at the moment. It's about natural pattern formation, which gives me lots of license to put pretty pictures in it. I want your help to find some good pictures for me to use. What would be ideal would be pictures of what is essentially the same pattern in many different contexts. For example, here are some pictures that I applied a threshold filter to to highlight the similarities in the patterns:

A human fingerprint:

Ripples on sand:

Zebra stripes:

You can see some other pictures that I've found by nipping along to http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~crnt2/pt3essay/ . Go on then, you Google whizkids, help me out!

I can't remember what it's called but there's a cyclic chemical reaction that occurs, resulting in waves of colour (I think one half of the name is Zoff or something)

The pattern of the Zebra stripe picture looks almost IDENTICAL and I mean identical to patterns of what are called "Tuning Fork Ripples".

These are lithified ripple marks (look this up - look for ripples in sedimentary rocks - try searching for "Sedimentary Facies") and when you look in plan view at these ripples you see those same tuning fork shapes!!

Woohoo BSc Geoscience to the rescue lol!
