Hi guys, I've decided to try and put together a new gaming rig to replace my ageing (and now broken) rig. I will be able to reuse my case, psu (coolermaster m520w) and hdd/dvd etc. I'm really only looking to spend around £300. I'm happy to buy clearance or second hand and have access to the MM. I just need some help deciding on what to aim for to get the most from my money. So far I'm considering a 2nd hand 2500k with a z68 board but that's as far as I've gotten. Just wondering what more knowledgeable people would do with my budget, and whether I should consider an amd fx chip or try and stretch for new components.

thanks guys

Hi Uther, I noticed the same board in clearance for £35 so I may go for that one depending one what's missing from it. I notice you have a 2500k and the same mobo, how do you find them? have you tried overclocking the cpu yet?

Only put the system together a couple of days ago, and not overclocked yet but I like it! The Z68 Gigabyte is still perfectly capable especially with a 2500k.
If you are not bothered with new stuff so much someone is selling an I7 920 bundle in the MM for £155, that would leave you with enough out of your budget for a good gfx card. Some wicked deals on AMD cards currently!

How does the i7 compare to the 2500k? I'm really just wanting to get the most out of my modest budget. I'm hoping to play some of the upcoming games: watchdogs, bf 4, dayz standalone etc at a respectable fps, and hope it will last 2/3 years. I play at 1680x1050 so I'm hoping that will be possible.
