Hi All

I currently have an LG G2 that I'm quite pleased with.

In the past, ive always had a phone contract, and then at upgrade time, ive got something new (pay £0 - £100 max) and sold the old one off to pay for the new.

now, ive managed to cling onto my 18 month contract thus far, and only pay around £24 a month. My usage is low, I only get 500 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb data. Ive never exceeded this. Most of my data is via wifi.

Now, its upgrade time, and I'm with EE and I fancy a Samsung S6. only because its nice to have a new phone, I'm actually pretty happy with my G2.

Now, the upgrade deals on EE are nothing special. I have no option any more to stick with my current tarrif and take a loyalty offer, which is what I did last time.

As a loyalty, I get a £20 discount of a new phone for an upgrade.

So I have to take a new tarrif, and I don't want to pay too much per month, so on EE I can get the following:

500MB, 500 minute, unlimited texts for £37 a month plus £100 for the phone (£80 with the loyalty thing)

or, on Tesco mobile, I can get the following:

1GB, 1000 minutes. 5000 texts for £36 a month, with no upfront cost for the phone.

Seems like a no brainer to me, unless there is a reason why I shouldn't?

I have very little cash at the moment, so regardless of how much cheaper it would be in the long run, buying the phone outright and going sim only isn't an option.

Alternatively, I just keep the G2 and go sim only.

What you think guys? any other deals about? Tesco mobile rubbish?

Contract doesn't expire until 27th Jun, so I have a while to think about it.

Cheers guys

further research...

I can get it with unlimited minutes and texts and 5GB for £37 a month with no upfront cost with EE through mobilephonesdirect.co.uk.

Im a little unsure about mobilephonesdirect.co.uk though, it seems too good to be true...?

In your position I would stick with the G2 and go SIM-only. The >£20 a month saving makes more sense if you're a bit strapped for cash, surely? Yeah it's nice to have a new phone but it doesn't sound like the best option for you at the moment.

Jake, you're right, you speak good sense... but shiny new phones are nice!

Seriously though, yeah I may consider that. The G2 does still have some value though, and its sale could provide some needed cash immediately.

Perhaps i'll go on 1 month contracts for a while then I can start up a new deal whenever I like...

ill have to have a think.

Did you get lollipop update on your G2 yet? I got mine 2 days ago, and it is a nice breath of fresh air for the phone. Go check for updates now, might help to hold off your upgrade itch a bit longer!

not got it yet, searched for updates, but it cant connect to server, got a crap connection here at work, and our wifi isn't much better.

will check when I get home.

Thanks for the info

I got my HTC one M7 at launch through mobile phones direct £20.50 which at the time was a steal. It went up with them when the phone got a bit more popular.

Is there any reason it has to be a Galaxy S6? plenty of phones out there cheaper which would still be an upgrade/shiny new.

To be honest I would be tempted to keep the LG G2 until something you really want comes out.

Which is exactly what I am doing with my HTC. Contract is up now.

I've had my G2 since October 2013, so a few months left on contract. I have the upgrade itch too, but feel as if i should stretch the G2 as far as I can. Was quite excited by the S6 and G4, but have almost got over them both now, especially as neither had stellar battery life.

Will have a close eye on the Note 5, especially as release date should be close to my contract end. I just want a beast of a battery and a great screen.

In my experience the data speed on Tesco mobile is woeful at best. EE is consistently fast down here.

I'm looking to get away from Tesco and go with someone else, be it 3 or Orange.
