Hey all, ive decided to bite the bullet and build a new PC.

I want a long lasting gaming system so i have decided to go for a NVIDI 4090 gfx card.

I am torn between going for an Intel ( 3/5 of my last pcs have been intel but im open to both ) 13900K or the AMD ryzen 7950X3D.

Purely a gaming machine this one so i just want a quality game system.

I have always built my own systems but feel i am a bit out of date now so looking for help as i'm out of touch with motherboards , memory etc.

Really only looking for the case and the components, don't need keyboard , mouse or monitors as they are all pretty new and high end already.

Budget wise i want to come in as much under 3k as possible ( if possible while still being a great system )

It is replacing an overclocked i7-7700K with 2x Overclocked 1080Ti cards so hopefully i see a huge jump in performance!

Thanks for any help.

1% lows if you care about that has some people swaying towards Intel and apparently there are more noticeable micro stutters on amd... but this is from hearing various opinions on YouTube.

It also depends what sort of games you playbthe amd is better for racing sims etc and the reduce power usage during gaming vs Intel.

I'm swaying towards Intel and have the same dilemma at the moment. Amd seems the better value platform but if I'm paying the big bucks I want solid performance across the board 1% lows and microstutters included.

Hopefully someone with experience of both platforms can chip in, with real world experience of both.

Yeah i really am not sure which way to swing this time , i have heard horror stories with games like Harry Potter etc ( i won't be buying it as it's not my thing anyway ) taking stutters but i am not sure how much is down to the graphics card / cpu and how much is down to the games coding.

I play a wide variety of games from tactical FPS through to Fifa ( will be getting the new renamed one ) to the occasional MMORPG and also looking forward to Ark2 amongst others.

The 7950X3D is only slightly faster than the 7800X3D, so unless you are looking to get every inch of performance from the RTX4090 possible I’d go with the 7800X3D.
This is the issue though, when you can justify the minimal performance gains to yourself I'd be content with most choices purely for gaming. But then I think of the random times I might need something taxing especially cuda core based and I force myself into the nvidia and intel path over and over again.

If I was going to do nothing but game 7800x3d makes total sense and offers insane value compared.

Depends what you’re doing and how fast you want it done I suppose. I do some pretty intensive work and have dual CPU systems that are very quick, but recently have been working with 5900X system and so far I’m more than impressed with its performance for noticeably less heat.
