Now then...

Im not clued up anymore in components, but i have a list here:

Well Im on a tight budget and wondered first of all.. does all that fit? and secondly what mobo should i use? Are there any with onboard graphics, can't really afford a gfx card yet

If the budget is really that tight then you could consider a cheaper case I suppose.

The motherboard that PCDave suggests would be fine for your needs.

Finally I'd change the Ram to PC6400 such as this Geil which costs the same but would be better for overclocking (assuming for the moment that the mATX motherboard gives you much in the way of options).

cheaper case? I didn't want to go too cheap on the case because I don't want it looking cheap, if you get me. However I was looking at the ocuk value builds, they look good value, but it's the case turning me off :p

I'm unsure. I could have £400 instead of £300 to play with

That's great. So buying with the psu in it can save me money? LOL I'm so out of touch like.

Think I'll go back to the drawing board and say 350-400 as my budget

This is about in the middle of your revised budget but offers a very capable system for gaming with some overclocking potential as well.

brilliant. I'll look at this and may change it but that's pretty solid. Just realised I need to add a windows to it :( but I might just put that on top of the budget when I get paid. It's ok though because I just want a solid build now then add to it in the future

Not fussed on the gfxcard yet but will get one in the future anyway

After thinking of my £300 original budget, its gone... ive now gone for a £400 min budget probably increasing to £450 + when i get a copy of windows and probably a keyboard :p

But this is the main bit ive gone for...

Ive ordered half now (which should be arriving wed free delivery!) and I will hopefully put the order in for the other half either friday or early next week. Excited :) Hopefully i can put it up like i used to and have a solid desktop

Cheers for the help semi pro.

When i get the cpu do i need thermal paste or will there be some supplied?

Also as i need a new copy of windows i'm debating whether to get XP or to go with Vista...

Any recommendations?

The CPU is retail so there will be thermal paste/pad pre-applied on the heatsink base.

I'd suggest going with Vista 64bit now unless you've got a pressing reason for XP 32bit. It is already a good OS for use and is only going to get better.

I'm afraid I'm not the best person to ask, I hate wireless and it hates me. That said I've had the same amount of success or lack of it with USB and card wireless options so I think they are roughly the same but I'd probably choose the card version if you can - check that it has Vista drivers though, most will but it doesn't hurt to check.

Ok thanks again.

Cant wait to get it running, got it half built now, probably be fully done middle of next week, forgot about bank holiday... mess up the delivery days :p

Built and running with no hitches... pretty straight forward. Havent got Vista yet though because i found an old copy of XP.. so will just buy Vista another day.

Only issue is with the wireless.. the card works but this house is pretty big and im on the top floor so might need to put the router in the middle of the house.

Other than that its class, really chuffed, only spent £409 and its a pretty decent looking machine.

Might get a game and test it out properly :p havent played any pc games for years
