Ok its upgrade time.

First off my current spec

zalman z9 plus
i7-2600k 3.4ghz (@4.1ghz ht)
akasa ak-ccx-4002hp venom cpu cooler
gigabyte p67a-ud4
g-skil ripjawx 8gb 1600mhz
his ati radeon hd 6970
seagate barracuda green 2tb sata 6gb/s
coolmaster silent pro gold 700w

So im getting a new case (ronin) to fit a 280x toxic, will use my old power supply, memory, hard drive and cpu.

How hard is it going to be to upgrade my mobo and is it worth doing with the gpu upgrade? I read that this will invalidate my windows 7 copy that came with my pre-made ocuk system few years ago.

In my ideal world i'd like to just plug and play my hard drive without a fresh install etc

Hmm from more reading my p67 should be fine until i get a second 280x toxoc for xfire?

Nothing wrong with the board you have. Even if you upgraded to a Z77 board you still wouldn't have pci-e 3.0 anyway as you need a Ivybridge cpu to unlock it. It's very doubtful that you would notice the difference with a single card.
