Bought new parts, they arrived today, took out old Mobo, installing new one its an Asus P8P67 Deluxe, using the mobo headers that came with the case, its an Lian Li case.. it seems to be sitting too low in the case on the headers, graphics card dusnt plug into socket fully and the backplate isnt aligned with the usb sockets and things..

only thing i can think of is the headers are too small, and i need to buy some longer ones so it rises the mobo higher?

Never heard of this problem before, thought it was a universal hight?

Thanks

they dont look brass, they are silver in colour.. they fitted my last mobo, it was a Asus Crosshair 590.. will get some now

Hey up,

You should be using the stand offs that came with the case, can you confirm that you have installed the motherboard on the standoff's/supports what ever you want to call them?

The motherboard should not be screwed directly to the try, which it looks like you have done fella.

I had a case like this before that came with no brass stand offs, luckily i had some sitting about. When you do use the stand offs though, would recommend some electrical tape over the bevelled screw places on the case so that there is no way the case will touch the board when powered on.

narr its on the standoffs / risers but just looks like they are the wrong height?? using the ones that came with the case.. never heard of different sized standoffs (mobo screw mount things)

Ok, I know this won't help matters any, but the standoffs you have with the case currently ARE correct. Lian-Li do use aluminum standoffs, rather than the more standard brass ones. While they are not always standard from case to case, there is no way in hell the risers you used with your previous motherboard shouldn't work with your new gear. I've no idea why the posters above are assuming you've screwed the motherboard directly onto the tray. The picture you posted would have the ports WAY lower than they show if you hadn't used any risers at all.

Unlike the posters above, I do believe you've installed the motherboard on the risers correctly, but I know this doesn't help the situation.

thanks, ide hope that i could get that right since ive been building PC's for years and im doing a degree in physics...... ive got some insulating washers and have put some inbetween the mobo tray and the standoffs, and one on the standoff to the mobo, have raised it up enough i think.. no idea why it wont fit? will buy some more standoffs to fix it another time

i would just take it all a part and start again, and see if that changes anything
include taking the backplate out and putting it back in, just incase

is the motherboard sloping abit ?
the pic isn't too clear, but it looks like the right side is abit lower than the left

i have seen different size standoffs in the past, but theres usually little difference between them, so i dont think ur using the wrong ones, unless u have missed one somewhere and the mobo is dipping down abit

thats the first thing i did, took everything off and started again, all standoffs are same height, all the wrong height for this mobo, cant think of anything else apart from that, doing the above i solved it short-term.. installing Win7 now.. these SSD's really are fast arnt they!

Standoffs do come in different sizes and like you said, you're clearly competent enough to not make any obvious errors. The ones provided obviously are the wrong size for the case. Might be worth contacting Lian-Li about the issue. In the mean time you can buy them online dirt cheap.

Here's a photo of the different sizes. As far as I know, the standard size is 32mm on the thread. (maybe if you could measure the thread on yours and compare)

Do you mean 3.2mm?

But his existing standoffs were fine for his old mobo. How can they be wrong for the new mobo? Uuuuurrrrr - I dont get it.

Yep i have no idea either....... Can anyone answer this? Also, using these insulating washers in-between the mobo/scres and mobo/standoffs would this cause a grounding problem, as the motherboard isnt connected to the case in anyway, i know the 24pin PSU cable will ground it, but will it need any more than this?

Can we have a picture of the underneath of the mobo between that and the case? Might help?

Also, the Lian-li would not be aluminium, they are chrome plated brass. The insulating washers would not cause any problems, as there are normally pads which touch the underside of the bolt. The bolt is then metal-to-metal with the riser and case. The washers do very little, just help you prevent overtightening. I have never used them myself.

Case screms normally come it 2 varieties, M3 (optical drives and depends on case) and the coarser 6-32UNC thread which is used on hard drives and some cases.
