Help: Moving from E2200>Q6600

Just bagged a cheap Q6600 G0 which I'm about to upgrade from my o'cd E2200.
Having never done a processor upgrade before I was wondering if I needed to change anything on my Bios, or would my MB pick up the new CPU and start in default (as I've overclocked my old CPU), and also put my mem timings in default?
Or should I just revert to default before I swap it?

Cheers.

Edit: Also is it worth me updating my MB bios, as I'm still running on the original bios?

Update BIOS to latest first of all. Remove any overclocks or memory tweaks etc. Swap the chip and set up BIOS again as needed. That should be all :)

Asus Maximus Formula should support Q6600 no problem, so to update your bios or not is your choice I guess (but I guess more up-to-date bios might help with improve overclocking). I would restore bios setting to default before taking the E2200 out though.

I had to upgrade my BIOS on my GA-965P-DS4 to make it support a Q6600. Was very easy though. Just copied the latest BIOS to a USB flash drive, booted into the BIOS and used Q-Flash to load the new one from the USB flash drive.

Then rebooted, resetted my settings to Optimized Defaults and then reconfigured everything. Booted into Windows and, apart from Windows Activation, it was completely oblivious. Not a single "New Hardware Found" message at all. Which indicates it was a clean upgrade.

Cheers.
I will restore to default before I swap, I'll also look into putting the latest bios on.

Thankyou.
As usual these forums are an invaluable help :)

The Asus Maximus Formula is a really nice mobo.I had one and ran my Q6600 @3.8ghz

3.6ghz should be pretty straight forward

Make sure you have the latest bios. Its important.

Good luck :)
