First off i'd like to say im not the most pc literate person so bare with me.

I play a lot of WoW but atm raiding 25 mans (25mans for people that aren't aware is effectively 25 people "real people" on screen at any given time) has always been a pain.

My pc can handle 10mans no issue and im aware my pc isnt the greatest in 25's im struggling with a 5-10fps slideshow and i wondered if someone could offer me some advice. I initially thought it was my graphics card so i recently upgraded to a NVIDIA Geforce GT 240 and whilst i see massive fps increases outside raids it still occurs inside. I was told that graphics card was easily capable of running WoW and most modern games these days.

So next i upgraded my RAM to 2048mb (2x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM) it was 1x and still no change.

So my last hope is to upgrade the processor only im not sure what will work and what won't and what kind of "significant" changes i will see if any which is where i hope someone takes the time to help me pick the right one on the forums.

Currently the PC is running an Intel Celeron 430 @ 1800Mhz
the motherboard is Foxconn 45CMX/45GMX/45CMX-K (Socket 775LGA)
the chipset is an Intel i945g/gz

Thats basically all the information i have, one friend told me the motherboard will support a duel core so i was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-340-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567

Can anyone tell me how much of a difference it would make and most importantly would it work, and yes im aware i need to bin my pc :) or possibly replace the motherboard but niether are an option atm. I'm currently running Vista home basic 32bit and do not want to be forking out for a new power supply! if anyone can find the best upgrade for me that would work! i'd be much appreciative got roughly around £60 to pay. Also would i have to reinstall windows since i dont actually have a disc i just press f7 or something for a reload on bootup.

Thanks ever so much for your'e time if anyone replies.

yepp sounds like your processor (keep in mind wow needs allot of procesisng power) so the cpu you got recomended looks like a good stable upgrade, its also a socket lga775 which is the socket of your motherboard so it will work together, although if you did want to spend all £60 then you would be better off geting one of these the advantage of this is you get a bit more speed from the cpu (2.70- 2.93ghz) both would make a good diffrence and fps would increase by around 15-20fps giving you around 30fps which is stable, you might or might not have to reinstall the os, its really just luck if it boots it with the new mobo on the old hard drive if not just rember to back EVERYTHING up and then copy it over again once new os is installed. so YES it would work but wait for a few more replys and see if other people have any more ideas before rushing out and buying. have fun :)

The only thing I would add is it's likely the Motherboard will need a BIOS update for the new CPU. It's not necessary to reinstall Windows when changing the CPU, only when changing the Motherboard.

One other thing to bear in mind slow down in WoW can often be caused by lag on server your playing (can someone clear this up?). I’ve seen people come in here before moaning that there new quad cores CPU’s can’t seem to cope with the game.

Your CPU is rubbish there no other way of spinning it to be honest, it's not cut out to play games so you really ought to have upgraded your CPU before replacing anything else especially for game like WoW. As for an upgrade I would look at getting a 2nd hand Core 2 Duo E6700/E6600 and overclocking the damn thing. If you don't want to spend lots of money and want the best performance you really need to give WoW a break for bit and learn how your PC works and learn about overclocking (it's neither complicated or really that dangerous).

Here's your motherboard CPU compatibility list but you have quoted 3 different motherboards (45CMX, 45GMX and 45CMX-K), download CPU-Z to confirm what board you have and check the compatibility again. You may also have to update your motherboards BIOS to get the newer CPU's to work.
