Help! My accelerator doesn't work!

Thirty quid?! Where is it that cheap? I may well fix this but it's going. I need something newer and more reliable

I've just gone outside armed with my el cheapo torch, laptop and ratchet set to tackle the beast. Started the car and the throttle works again?! I'm utterly confused!

The error code says it's intermittant, so it's working sometimes. Just check all the obvious stuff like connectors and cableing. It would be strange for it to work normally one minute, then not at all the next.
 
It does indeed say that, but its never happened before, and for a good hour it refused to work and just held the revs at what I presume is a limp level to allow you to get to a garage.

It would, as you say, be in limp mode. But when the error has gone, full power would be restored. The easiest thing to do is just replace it with an ebay one, it's not something that commonly goes wrong. Not worth going new if your in two minds whether to keep it, and it is 12 years old now.
 
I'm not keeping it. I'm currently looking for replacement cars but haven't a clue where to start to be honest.

I've only owned two petrol cars in 11 years (xr2 and 220 turbo) but really think I ought to get away from Diesel cars.
