Ok, my funds are increasing, and i was originally looking at the 7850, but now set my sights higher.

Powercolor 7870 Myst (tahiti)
Sapphire 7870 XT (tahiti)
VTX3D Black Edition (tahiti)
XFX DD 7870 Ghz Edition (tahiti)

or the GTX 660 Ti

Now I know that the cards are a pretty close match and price/performance means that the 7870 tahiti make it out to be a clear winner, but I'm debating on weather it is worth paying the extra for the PhysX and the lower power draw.

My Budget is around the £200 mark (7950 area is out of budget) and my power supply is the OCZ MXSP 600 which has a dual 12v rail with 25A on each, or I swap it for my wife's XFX Proseries 550w which has a Single 12v rail @ 44A

I'll be playing, COD4, MW3, BO2, COD:Ghosts (on release) and Planetside 2 which I've seen the physX comparison for and the the PhysX features look very very nice, but is it enough to justify the extra cash ?

Choices, choices.......what do you guys reckon
Thanks

Yea, there is about a £30-40 difference...

however the added eye-candy and lower power draw is worth considering....

oh yea, there is a catch........ I have a 15GB usage limit per month, so the games are pretty useless really....(I suppose I could sell them :D )

It's what I'm doing with mine. Even if they only sell for £25 it's £140 for the card; a bargain.

Especially as my 5870 went for £120

7870XT owner here :D
The price difference is just too much to even consider the 660TI after games are sold.
Currently have mines OCd to 1150/1600 and it is on par/sometimes better than a stock 7950 :)

£120?! Was it a 2GB edition?

Nope, did have an after market Zalman cooler though which no doubt helped.

The cooler is not the best, yet not bad, other than that its a great little GPU and 'at least' as fast as the much more expensive GTX 660ti.

If you want a good cooler spend that bit more on the Sapphire XT.

That's my only complaint, it's certainly not the quietest card. I'll likely be putting an accelero + 120mm fan on it or messing around with the stock cooler.

I think I'll stick with my original choice then the 7870 Tahiti....

Its just down to which card has the better Cooler/Fan, I'm pretty sure its between the VTX3D Black and the Sapphire XT

Overclocking the card is a given. I will be!

Edit.

Does anyone know if the AC Accelero Twin Turbo II Pro (which I have on my 4870) will fit the Tahiti card... ?

Its noisy, but i'm not bothered about that as I game with a big set of Plantronics ear mufflers :D

If you can find a cheap Sapphire 7870 XT its defiantly worth it, Tahiti LE is a little Gem for this money.

ok, I'll be stealing my Wife's PSU once it returns from RMA, we're probably looking at another 2weeks yet before I get the PSU, by which time I'll have £150 'Spare' so in effect my upgrade would cost MAX £60

but I will re-look at my options at that time in case of any reductions

7950 :D

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-203-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1673

MSI HD 7950 OC BE 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Car £217.99 - £10.00 cash back = £207.99
(cmon you can get £7.99 doing one extra hour :p or you can sell the games and get something around £30.00 back)

And yes, get your wife's PSU with single rail.

Now your talking, for as good as Tahiti LE is, the 7950 is definitely better, for that money, you'd be daft not to even if you have to raid the penny jar and dig deep, very very deep into the back of the couch.
