Hey all,

I know i posted here a couple of weeks ago, looking for help with MX-5's, tips of what to look out for when buying etc..

Right now she seems to be favouring the MGF 1.8 over the MX-5 on looks, and i know that the MGF has the age old headgasket stigma, but with a max budget of 3.2k these are the 2 main candidates for her right now, unless i've missed anything glaringly obvious choice wise.

I guess in the end it comes down to MGF Vs MX-5, i know a lot of opinions here would favour the MX-5 as a stranger choice, but how would you all rate the MGE if she did decide to go that route?

Planning to try and get a test drive of both over the coming weeks, so if there's anything to watch out for, would be great to know!

Thanks!

MX5 is the thinking man's drop-top but this is a girl we're talking about so... go with the one she thinks looks nicest :).

mgf looks better than the mx5. does she want something that looks good or goes good?

had an mx-5 well jap imported eunos roadster 1.6 (old model with the lights that pop up), awsome car with trouble free motoring thanks to jap tech.
would deffo recommend over mg

Don't buy either at this time of year, you'll struggle to find one at a sensible price.

I'd echo most of the board that the MX5 has a much better reputation for reliability and you're less lickely to have trouble finding parts.

Or if you want something different you could look for a Toyota Celica, but don't expect finding a convertable one to be a quick job, I've just tryed to find one on piston heads and it seems they're only slightly more common then rocking horse poo.

why would you have trouble finding parts for the MGF?

a friend had an MGF, he treated it well and it only had issues just before the end of his ownership - 3 years. He wasnt a slow driver either.
